I would have to say Destiny. It's definitely not as fast as it's touted to be (Kaboom! says around 5k/sec lang), but compared to dialups, 5k/s is still fast, you don't tie up the phone lines, and the rate is inexpensive compared to dialup unlimited accounts.

but is the connection always at 5k/sec or does it lag occasionally? how much do you pay?

I'm not subscribed to Destiny, although we'll be having Now cable internet installed at home next month when Home cable expands to our place. But from what I remember, Kaboom! said that the 5k/s is about average, and on non-peak hours it goes much higher. I think Destiny charges around PhP1,800 a month including the modem rental. Not so bad, eh?

yah.. work at an ISP with direct connections to the u.s.! (like IPhil ;> )
according to www.mydestiny.net (http://www.mydestiny.net) , they charge P2000 + P500(cable modem rental). and maybe +10%vat.
NOW cable's promo is charging P1650 + P330(cable modem rental). vat inclusive.

do you get special benefits when you work at an isp? unlimited accounts (i mean for home use)? what's going to happen when pldt starts metering?

ISP lang ba? I'm thinking of a dual-T3 connection <drool>. I'm not up to par with the tech-terms of cyberspace (like E1, DT1, etc...) but I do know what's fast. :)
Usually, what are the connections of an ISP? Leased line? E1? T1? T3?

'leased line' is a generic term; it can refer to a 64k land line or even an E1 microwave link.
64k = one voice channel
u.s. standards:
t1 = 1.5 mbps
t3 = 45 mbps
european standards:
e1 = 2.0 mbps
e3 = 34 mbps
there are other terms like oc3(155mbps) pero di ko na sila kabisado
cervini used to hog the whole e1 line until william yu installed cbq. hee hee hee ;>

What's the feedback with Home Cable's NOW cable internet? We're about to get hooked up but if there's a lot of negative stuff getting out I'd rather just cancel the whole deal.

Dave, pa'no mo nalaman? :)
Anyway, I think ang IRC/ICQ nalang ang may-cap ngayon. I don't think the CBQ/Shaper did well under 64KBps or less. ;)
Hehehehe... He's thinking of alternatives right now. Pero malamang next sem, may CBQ na lahat. Darn. ;)

the best connection to the net in pinas... would be much better if the Pinoy sites were all located or mirrored in the Philippines, that would save a whole lot of bandwidth!
--
as for OCn circuits, OC means Optical Carrier. Some speeds are:
OC3 = 155 Mbps
OC12 = 622 Mbps
OC48 = 2.4 Gbps
An OC3 is also known as (European standard I think) as STM1.
Of course, none of these are available for Philippine Internet use!

Destiny can get as fast as 60 kb/sec but very rarely. Most of the time, it's in the 5 kb/sec area although during late hours it hits double digits. I hope they figure out how to make it even faster now that they have serious competition.
Peace.

gino l.
all traffic in the campus will be charged starting next sem.
aside from that, bandwidth shaping will also be implemented.
this was where i was questioning net group; why shape bandwidth if they will charge per MB anyway?
cersa workstations might have to be 'un-masqueraded'

I always get disconnected with my present ISP. Why is that? Is the software I am using (Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer) something to do with it? Or my modem?
(I am not much familiar with computers.)
