Anybody knows how money order works (where to get it, the process, is t safe)? I need to send money (dollars) to US, and I don't have credit card. Are there other options?

Have you tried cashier's checks?

You could use 'International money order' and it should work here in the US. Ask your post office about it.

cashier's checks from Pinas to US through mail. Forget it. Avoid complications. The best is bank to bank. They will charge you service fee pero sigurado naman. Try asking your bank beside gaano ba kalaki yang e send mo. Dont go over $9,999.
Sisilipin ng IRS yan. :D

hi there!

I just bought an item over at e-bay and the seller preferred money orders as payment. I also had a hard time figuring out how to send my payment to her. Fortunately, I came across Western Union which has support for Philippine buyers like me. I used my mom's credit card. Western Union has a standard charge of $2.95 but I think it's just for the processing and delivery. You can check out their site for a free estimate of how much it's going to cost you. I haven't checked my mom's updated billing statement for her credit card but the exchange rate of Citibank for dollar transactions is approximately P55-$1.

Good luck!

=)

Can I pay them in pesos and they will be the ones to convert the money? Or do I have to pay them in dollars? I think their charge is $2.95 per dollar?

I really want to try the money order way but I'm quite wary if that's safe or it will be ages before it gets to its destination.

just go to western union... (it is faster and cheaper than doing a wire transfer, you could try money order but it would take a while before it gets to the US...) i am pretty sure you could pay them philippine peso and they will just convert it to $... make sure you have the person's address and phone number because you will be needing that when you fill out the form... they might also ask for an ID... they will give you a reference number and you give that number to the person picking up the funds... they might also ask for his/her ID...

I went to the post office and they're not offering the money order service anymore :(. I went to a Western Union branch near us but they only offered transfer of money from US to the Phils :(. What branches offer money transfer the other way around?

Western Union doesn't offer money order service. They'll only take cash, in Philippine Peso, and the payee in the US will receive dollars, cash -- not a money order draft. Mahirap 'yan because they may prefer either checks lang or money order drafts, not cash.

No municipal post office offers international money order, only domestic. The Central Post Office naman in Lawton, offers that service, except when you are sending your money order to the States. They discontinued the service a long time ago, because people were always complaining that it's so inefficient and all that.

Without a credit card, you have one option left. Go to your bank. Ask if they can issue you a dollar demand draft, for a minimum service fee. You'll give them Pesos, equivalent to the amount that you're supposed to pay in dollars, the conversion nga lang is slightly higher than the regular rate. Then they'll give you a check drawn on a US bank, and this check is what you can send to whoever you need to pay. Citibank offers this service only to depositors, the same goes for BPI. But you can check with other international banks. Chinabank, for example, issued me a dollar demand draft, when I needed to send a check to the US, even if I'm not an account holder.

Ang hitch lang nito is, you still have a check that you will need to physically send via airmail, unlike when you wire money, na wala nang pisikal na perang dumadaan sa kamay ng mga tao, gets?? But I assure you that it's probably the safest way you can send money to the US, kasi bank to bank transaction na yan.

Pero may solusyon pa rin dyan sa hitch na yan. You can go to your local post office and registered/express-mail your check, for a fee. Mahal pero siguradong makakarating in three days, I think? Or kung praning ka pa rin, i-Fed Ex mo na lang yang tseke na yan, and "it's sure to be there by 10:30 am" tomorrow, hehe.

Sana makatulong ako sa 'yo, callie. :)
