hello! i just hava question. is it advisable to go to hongkong in january? both times i was there was during summer. but how about january-february? i know this ain't their sale season, but does this mean the rates (hotel, packages, airfare) are not reasonable?

diba february is chinese new year? may effect ba ito sa airfare and presyo ng mga bilihin doon? thanks!

Airfare and hotel rates are definitely higher during Chinese New Year. It would be better to go there during off-peak season.

hi di naman sa pagyayabang o ano, kaso kung tungkol sa hong kong lang naman.... i know it like the back of my hand....

kung january ka pupunta, early january.... baka makahabol ka pa sa sale after december 25. kaso ang problema puro sapatas o pantalon ang mabibili mo. or electronics. pag shirts hindi pwede kasi winter sale yan so medyo di bagay sa weder ng pilipinas.

kung gusto mo after chinese new year.

I was there around this time sa HK last year. Yeah winter sale nga. But if you are the type who travels a lot, that is really where you buy good winter clothes, not to mention cheap pa. I could not believe kung gaano kaganda and not to mention mura ang winter collection ng Girodano. Di mo kakalain na Giordano ang gumawa. Their turtlenecks are nice and a whole lot of winter stuff. Di kagaya dito na medyo boring ang collection ng Giordano. The winter clothes you're gonna buy there would be really expensive if they have them here.

went there for a chinese new year holiday a couple of years ago. sarap mamili sa eve ng chinese new year, every merchant, lahat ng goods nila bagsak presyo, plus ok yun sale sa victoria park. meron pa kaya sya hanggang ngayon? we're planning to visit ulit next year chinese new year. :)

btw, sobrang lamig pag january, pag punta ko dun, wind breaker lang dala ko. eh mahina pa naman ako sa lamig so i ended up buying a cardigan, a thermal pants, and gloves sa sobrang nilamig ako. :)

Expectantheart, if you're after the cold weather, go here (I'm in Hong Kong currently) sometime late January till late February.
As Chinese New Year will be sometime late January or early February (depende sa cycle ng moon, di ba?), apektado nga ang airfare.
Don't worry too much about stores going on sale as almost all of the shops here look for a reason to declare a sale, if not a closing-out sale!
You might want to try other shops other than Giordano (give yourself a break, don't be brand-conscious). Try the shops in Wanchai. Very good selections at unbelievable prices. Kung may mahal man, sulit naman.
To ward off the cold, you can just bring your own sweater and then head to Mongkok's night market for a cheap but very nice replacement to what you already have.
Good luck!

thanks again!

Well, March won't be that cold here. However, you probaly won't find that many bargain sales as during the Winter months. So there.

I hear that Disney is building Disneyland Hong Kong. If given the choice, would it be more appealing to Filipinos to go to Disneyland Tokyo or Disneyland Hong Kong?

Naaah .. i think hindi sa HK ang bagong "disney" .. sa China ito itatayo .. ayaw nga ng ibang locals don pero pinipilit nilang i boom ang china ngayon kaya medyo "natatakot" na ang HK kc tourism na lang ang business nila eh what more kung boom na ang china ..

chinese new year will fall on jan 31 (i think), tour packages will most likely go up a week prior to new year.

Don't go overboard when buying something to wear before going to HK. A simple wool sweater will do. Then, when you arrive in Mongkok---explore. Walk around and discover great bargains. Kulitin ang mga tindahan dahil one way or the other eh you'll agree on a price.
Once, I got myself a cream-colored corduroy jacket sa Dundas St. for just HKD49. A friend of mine swore that he saw it too in a store along Nathan Road and that it costs HKD200! Har! Har!
Forget about Tour Guides. Just get yourself a map from any official Tourism Office (there's one at the Star Ferry Terminal, Tsimsatshui) and explore.

ok...been there...and I'm back

it ang mga payo ko sa mga baguhan (lalu na sa mga pupunta during winter):

Positive:
- hah! thank god i felt the cold breeze of winter (cold enough to enjoy it...kapag sumobra pa dun baka tumayo na lang ako sa isang tabi)
-(almost)everything is clean
- people are disciplined (lalu na in terms of their behavior sa streets)
-nice tourist attractions
-winter fashion is everywhere
- you'll definitely enjoy walking
- diff transpo are worth trying
- what?! isang bandehado ang serving plate per person?! (cafe de coral...try this place)
-some stores accept US$
-go to the night market...in mongkok

Negative:
-sheesh... 70+ pesos for a small mineral water!?!?
-it's not just the water...almost everything is quite pricy (wut do you expect from a place that has high cost of living?)
-and I thought it was under british government...howcome they can't speak good english (hah...of course i know the answer...alamin nyo na lang pagpunta nyo dun)
-what the hell would i do with winter clothes here in the philippines

other advices:
-mejo mahirap pa rin tumawad sa hong kong....well, compared to china
-calculator is truly the universal language!
-never buy electronics from small electronic shops in kowloon...just think, kung ang mga taga-roon ay hindi namimili sa mga shops, bakit ka pa mamimili (thank a wonderful advice from our tour guide)

to answer the question of expecthanheart:
for me, it's advisable to go there that time whether prices are high or not. I think it would still be reasonable kahit mahal ng konti...since its a new experience for you...basta dala ka nga ng jacket...and just like what everybody else say here...puro winter clothes ang binebenta (hah! kung may winter lang dito eh di namakyaw na rin ako ng mgabinebena dun!)

Lenny's advice is right...nice giordano clothes. but cheapest na nakita kong damit na pangwinter ay yung sa Bosini....

hope you'll enjoy your stay there!
