sa pagkaka-alam ko, sa pinas lang ginagamit yung term na "rubber shoes" to describe tennis shoes or other types of athletic shoes. Dito naman sa states hindi eh. Imaginin mo na lang kung papasok ka sa Sears or sa Macy's shoe department, tapos sasabihin mo "Excuse me, where can I find rubber shoes?"; eh kung hind ka sabihan ng "rubber what?" nung saleslady, ewan ko na lang.

eh di ang sasabihin nung saleslady eh "oh! You mean galoshes!"

Ang tawag dito ay tennis shoes or athletic shoes, basta hindi rubber shoes.

Abroad, I always see the term rubber-soled shoes. As opposed to leather-soled.
So sure, go ahead and ask for "rubber shoes."

pati na rin nung term na "carnap" sa pinas lang yata ginagamit. Wala akong ni isang tao dito na ginagamit yung salitang "carnap". Sa "NYPD Blue" ba naririnig niyong sinasabi ni Sipowicz ang "I'm sorry maam, but your'e vehicle was carnapped!"? Hindi yata noh.

In the UK they are called Trainers. But I refer to them as sneakers.

Yeah only Filipinos use that term. While we are on the subject, Filipinos are the only ones to say 'fetch' rather than pick-up.

A friend of mine said "Oh my husband is fetching me later" and my American friend said, " Your husband is doing what?". "Fetch, you know he is coming here to pick me up". So my friend said "Just say pick-up, fetch is for dogs"

dito tawag "trainers" or "runners." Pero come to think if it, yung term na "rubber shoes" or "rubber-soled shoe" na gamit sa Pilipinas ang pinaka appropriate.

Padagdag: Here in America you don't call buffets "eat-all-you-can". You call them "all-you-can-eat". When I was new here my hubby would laugh at me everytime I use the former term :)
