If you had 5 days to 1 week to take off from work and you have the bucks to hop into your car (with friends or family) and take a road trip, would you? where will you go? where will you stay? what would you prefer to do during the road trip (sight-seeing, read, active outdoor sports like river rafting, rock-climbing, ride a carabao, harvest rice, etc.)? Will appreciate your thoughts. Thanks:)

Try the Northen Luzon loop.

Suggestion ko:

Day 1: Manila to Tuguegarao
Day 2: Tuguegarao to Laoag
Day 3: Laoag city, Vigan, sidetracking to Pagudpud tours, make this place the highlight of your vacation
Day 4: Laoag to Baguio
Day 5: Baguio and suburbs tour
Day 6: Baguio to Alaminos Pangasinan
Day 7: Alaminos to manila with a short Subic tour.

To appreciate the road to Tuguegarao rural sceneries, try to leave home at about 4 am...

I hope this helps!

Would I go to a road trip? Hell yeah, I would!
I think the best road trips are the ones that cover huge distances, such as going from LA to NYC, or from Vancouver to Montreal.
Instead of a car, I'd probably rent an RV for those long trips, just like the one in MTV's Road Rules.

thanks abulug ... good suggestion, especially the alaminos-subic-manila homestretch. what do you think of our water reservoirs as recreational destinations --- pantabangan and magat dams ... the san roque dam being constructed in pangasinan looks like a beauty!

heymikey, are you in the U.S.? yes, would like to try the smaller RVs here in RP ... altho there are no legitimate RV parks and campgrounds ... go wild camping then!

what about the others? those with kids ... would you bring your kids on a long road trip? goodness, should be a hell of a task keeping them entertained. What i hate is the traffic ... the congestion has extended far north to Cabanatuan on the Tuguegarao route and Urdaneta, Pangasinan on the Baguio route. Those damn owner jeepneys, tricycles and pog-pogs surely spoil the therapy of a long drive.

I never been to those two dams, but maganda daw ang Pantabangan. Avoid San Roque dam! Magulo pa ang situation dyan!

No, Canada.

I don't know what those smaller RVs in RP look like. Never seen one...just the regular-looking RVs.

Hi Ironman,

I come from a big family...with a lot of kids (the grandchildren). Everytime we travel, the kids go with us. (abroad or here in the Philippines). As much as possible, they should have some stuff with them to keep them entertained. Or we have games inside the van. This keeps them entertained.

We tried the Manila - Pagudpud trip and it was fantastic. The kids loved Vigan and Fort Ilocandia.

thanks martincharles ...

so, where do you guys stay when road-tripping? there are some nice and quaint provincial hotels ... which are your favorites? I know that in places like Cebu and Bacolod, and even Davao, you don't really have to stay in 4-5 star hotels. There are nice "boutique hotels," that's what they call them, with rooms going for anywhere between 600-800/night. What about the food ... restaurants? (mahal yata yon if you're a big group) cook your own?
