ang sagot ko dito is simple: For some reason, since I was little, I was always fascinated by countries and geography (i.e., continents and country capitals). Kaya I am really excited every time na may pageants, kasi I am anxious to know which countries will make it sa top ten. Dun actually nagumpisa ang aking liking for beauty pageants. Kaya nga I'm also a big fan of the Olympics and siyempre sa World Cup.

So if yung mga pageants, hindi na siya about countries (i.e, mga delegates nalang and their numbers, regardless kung san sila galing), I think hindi ko nahiligan ang pageants.

Plus, add pa na there really are a lot of beautiful women sa pageants these days. Kaya nga if ma notice niyo, for me, it's the countries that matter.

Actually I'm not sure which comes first...basta I have snippets of memory about my first pageant fascination...I'm not sure if it started that year when Ms Hong Kong won 4th place in MU back in late 80s or when Ms Thailand won MU back in late 80s or was that the same year?!? Goodness! I don't even have a recollection kung san pinalabas un..ang alala ko, I think it was in channel 9 with the not so clear feed because tv then has not so good transmission (or perhaps, it was only my tv then hehe). Ang naalala ko rin e Asian ang setting...oh well...I did my best to narrate my history...shemay, actually, ang labo nga ng kwento ko hehehe....:belat: Pero sure ako late 80s ako nagstart mga 88 or 89 hehehe...so I was like a kid technically then.

Tapos, *** Miss World, syempre *** year ni Ruffa hehehehe...pero I think nauna *** si Carol Su..sa..argg...basta ex wife ni Hans Montenegro..(side note: grabe pang showbiz na lang talaga ako...i should eat lots of peanuts from now on to improve my memory...oh dear...:ayaw: )

Miss International..once lang eh...*** batch ni Snow and sa SBN21 pinalabas un! Yesssss! May natandaan akong malinaw hehehe....

Miss Asia Pacific...*** batch ni Michelle Aldana! Was cheering for her pa nga and thank God, nanalo sya, sobra bilib ako sa sexiness nya as compared to her contemporaries in that pageant then hehehehe....

Bb. Pilipinas...believe it or not, *** kay Nina Ricci batch lang ako nagumpisa! kase *** mga past...hindi ako makapanuod kase usually yata nun Sunday *** palabas e may pasok so missed a lot of them! :p

Mutya ng Pilipinas...baahhh..I can't remember watching any of it until siguro two years ago...ewan! Di ko na talaga matandaan..no recollection hehehe...sama...soreee....:teehee:

To answer cathybee's question...

It was this Miss Universe 1989 betamax tape that triggered my passion for beauty pageants. I remember it clearly pa... My dad went home one day and gave us the tape. Panonoorin daw naming lahat after dinner. And so we did. Like Musique, I was already fascinated with geography and countries at that time. This was triggered even more when I watched the tape. At 1st first, deadma ako sa Top 10. Sabi ko so what? Hehe! :glee:

The very 1st Miss Universe pageant I watched LIVE on TV was the 1992 pageant. It was May 8, Monday that day-- National Elections pa nga eh. I wasn't really paying attention so much pa nga eh. Panahon pa ng brown-outs nun. :mad: After that, palagi na akong nanonood ng Miss Universe.

The very 1st Miss World pageant I watched LIVE on TV was the 1993 pageant. Holy Cow! Twas my very first time to see a Filipina make it to the Top 10 of any pageant. So you could just imagine my excitement... This particular pageant really triggered my love for pageants as a whole. I remember buying all the publications that featured Ruffa's victory... :up:

The very 1st Miss International pageant I watched LIVE on TV was the 1993 pageant. I remembered laughing when Miss Puerto Rico failed to make it to the Top 15 cut. Sabi ko "Haha! Kala mo susundan mo victory ni Yari ha!".

The very 1st Bb. Pilipinas pageant I watched LIVE on TV was the 1994 pageant. It was held on October 31-- since we were to host Miss Universe that coming May the next year. I remember not attending my Halloween party just to watch the pageant. hehe! Addict na ako then.

The very 1st Miss Asia Pacific pageant I watched was the 1992 pageant. Kakauwi pa lang namin from Big Bang sa Alabang that night. When I turned on the TV, Miss Israel Tali Ban-Harush was already being crowned amid cheers at the PICC.

So ayan... that's how I became a pageant enthusiast. :)

To answer Cathybee's question,
Well I started watching Miss Universe way back in 1989, but I have no memory of it that much. I became addicted with pageants, especially with Miss Universe only in 1994. And after that, I haven't looked back since. I'm also into geography and countries, though I'm not much of an expert compared to bubbles but it's still a passion for me.

Miss Universe lang talaga hilig ko, (well that's the only pageant that I have much information) and her sister pageants. I do watch Bb. Pilipinas just to know who's our bet, but that's it. I dunno much about it. Miss International, well on and off, that pageant really bores me so i don't really watch it. Miss Asia Pacific/Mutya, never also. hehehe Miss World, well I too started watching it only back in 1993 and I also got the shock of my life when I saw a Filipina made it in the top 10 for the first time. But wala din akong following sa Miss World. If you're asking me about Miss Earth? hehehe no plans also hehehe. Maybe just for curiosity lang.

Musique: Dagmar Votterl was crowned Miss Global Beauty Quest Venezuela 2001 in July 2001. She won the Miss Global Beauty Quest 2001 crown on October 28 last year. The pageant was held in Montreal, Canada.

MISS KANSAS has a lovely face, but her gown is nothing compared to ones posted above. Perhaps she could do an Oxana, bad gown in the prelims but she carried it really well. She looks like she's going to the prom.

To answer your question, Miss Germany 2002 Katrin Wrobel cancelled her contract with the Miss Germany Corporation (German franchise-holder for Miss World) last week because she claimed she was not promoted and handled properly.

As a consequence of this unforseen event, the corporation is in search of Katrin's replacement to represent Germany in the Miss World 2002 pageant in November.

Natascha Borger is being eyed to compete in Abuja. Let's wait and see if this will indeed push through. :up:

I still don't get it what is behind Osmel's "thick war paint" formula. Yun lang pagkakamali niya- still stuck in the 80's it seems. That red make lipstick is so passé. Katrine Sorland recently threatened to boycott the Miss World 2002 pageant. This was due to the maltreatment that women undergo in Nigeria and also due to the brutal pain that people face due to the religious policies of the country.

Since I saw the Atlantis Hotel, Paradise Island when the Oprah Show was in the Bahamas, I said ok maging host sa Miss Universe to ah. Can't believe now it's slowly becoming a reality. I've always wanted the Bahamas to host Miss Universe. But now they fave a big competition with China, but at least the Bahamas has officially announced that they're bidding, China di pa. Well securitywise mas may advantage ang Bahamas, it's a democratic country unlike China (malamang madami pa rin restrictions kapag sa China) and the Bahamas' proximity is quite near the US so another advantage din sa kanila. And for us, just in case Venezuelan training nanaman ang gagawin sa bet natin, malapit din yun. And the government of the Bahamas are quite supportive when it comes to major events such as this, unlike communist China medyo they still look down on pageants- like what they did sa Miss China Universe pageant- such hypocrites.

TRIVIA:
The Atlantis Hotel in the Bahamas is owned by Sun International, the same people who built Sun City in South Africa. The girls could use this hotel as their delegate home if ever- this is the most popular hotel/resot in the Bahamas.

Corinne Coman is the new Miss Guadeloupe. She would be representing the Caribbean island in Miss France 2003 (lang). Too bad that Madamme Fontaney lost the franchise to Miss Universe. Miss Guadeloupe pa lang, napaka elegant na nila. A REAL BIG loss talaga. Why can't they join Miss Universe representing the island nalang? That I don't know. Miss France 1993 hails from these islands. Perhaps power(bubbles) would share some insights about these islands, I think they're a dependant of France? Thus making them a part of France?

These Miss Guadeloupe candidates are just so elegant. Elegant is such weak a word, jaw dropping would be more appropriate. To think their winner will just go to Miss France? They can stand on their own with these calibre of beauties. Make up pa lang they have an edge over Miss Venezuela candidates (no comparison whatsoever). Light lang and yet it's a work of art.

in my case, my fascination really started in miss universe 1994. the publicity was so intense and it was all over the place. i even memorized the names of the candidates. me and my friends would actually talk a lot about it. ever since then i never failed to watch miss universe. i only missed 1995,1997.
of particular interests din for me yung geography and trivia which i think is a factor of me liking pageants.
and above all things, the beautiful women competing "encouraged" me to watch pageants. ;)

as far as i can remember, the first bb. pilipinas that i watched was the 1995 edition, i missed 1997,1998.

regarding miss world, 1993 was my first. i would really love to see the 1994 edition.

miss international, i only watched it once only. it was the batch of colette centeno, i think.

miss asia-pacific: i'm not really a fan of this.

mutya: almost every year. the first one was the batch of daisy reyes where she won mutya-queen of clubs(?) yata.

actually come december every year, i really get excited kasi start na naman ng pageant season with the bb pilipinas.

i'm glad that there is a thread in PEX about this. at least i'm well informed and updated. also i know that there are people having the same sentiments as i do.

The gown is really good...I think the silhouette of this gown is the same as that of Miriam's during her MU stint...but I don't think Ms. Michigan has been able to handle the gown superbly in that pix. But who knows...this is but just one shot di ba? ;)

My Experience at the Ms Philippines Fashion Show

I've come to realize that some beauty queens actually look better in person than in TV. And most of them were about my height except for Honeylet Gascon! Man, she's blest with long legs and a thin frame!

I tried to take photos but the results were blurry. Because I was seated quite far from ramp. My digicam's batt was quite low na rin! One more thing, as I was taking pictures there were two girls who approached me and asked for my name! And so I gave it to them! They didn't tell me why they asked for it! I thought all along that they were gonna report it to the Discipline Office for taking pictures. And so I stopped taking pictures na! Yun pala, during the intermission the DJ-Host called on my name and asked me to claim my prize for having a nice hair! He also asked me & my girl partner to strut our stuff. It was so embarassing! One experience I will never forget!

Well, about the models/beauty queens, all I can say is that Carlene Aguilar looked good. Better than April Perez. Gina Ritter was really beautiful. Sobrang payat! Sheryl Ducusin knows how to strut her stuff. Too short for a queen though. Honeylet naman was ok! There were also semi-finalists during the show. I couldn't name them though. One thing I noticed was that April Perez doesn't know how to ramp! Tsk tsk! She had a nice bod though!

I saw Carlene Aguilar with this cute ABS-CBN talent after the show! I was hesitant to ask if she happens to be a PExer! Baka mapahiya lang ako if she's not, diba?

Sa boys naman, they're all from my school. Athen Barnaby was really cute!

Just watched some of the Miss Teen USA Prelims video clips in the Miss Teen USA site and here are my observations:

-the music used during the evening gown competition was also used during Miss Universe 2001 Prelims evening gown competition.
-the girls that I must say had the best catwalk were Miss Georgia (she's my strongest bet), because she was a ramp model in Milan and strutted for desginer names such as Prada, Versace and Fendi. And the other one was Miss Indiana (can't believe it)- she carried her gown really well.
- and what i've noticed about the girls in both Miss USA and Teen USA is that they walk too fast, they lack the "vavavoom" and the sexy walk we usually see from the Latinas, Europeans, some Africans and the Indians in Miss Universe. Well except for Miss Georgia, since she was a model in Italy she has the "sexy Italian" walk.
