Wow!!! Miss Albania looks a lot like Sushmita and/or Fabiola Perez Roviroza. She is very pretty indeed.

I am not at all impressed with Reshmi Ghosh. She looks a typical Indian woman to me. Nothing special. But I expect she has some tricks up her sleeve.

Still, my top picks are Bosnia & Herzegovina, Colombia and Panama.

miss colombia is a stand-out for me. so are miss albania and miss bosnia. but seeing the pictures, they didn't look as stunning as compared to their glamour shots earlier posted. really glamour shots bring out the best in them.

From what I can recall with regards to its statehood, in teh early 90's, I think 1993 there was a referendum calling for Puerto Rico to be the 51st U.S. State. It missed the majority by a small number with around 43% if I can clearly recall. Right now, Pro-Statehood are once again calling for another referendum to seek what the people want. If it fails again, Puerto Ricans will remain as Americans with passports but without votes and other rights being enjoyed by the American people. But if successful, Puerto Ricans would be able to freely elect a representative in the U.S. Senate and the Congress and would now be governed by the President of the United States and no longer by the Governor.

I saw and "met" the Miss Earth delegates in Burgoo Podium yesterday.

Miss Switzerland actually came to our table and recommended the restaurant's pasta because it was good daw and they eat a lot of it in the Swiss-Italian border. Ganda ng make-up niya, nabawasan ang kanyang pagkasingkit and she looked Italian-singkit.

Miss Albania looks good indeed. Miss Malaysia is a revelation. She looked nice! Miss Ghana is TALL!!!! Di masyadong maganda si Miss Greece.

D.C. is not classified as a State, buy a Federal District since it is the nations seat of power. But like any other state it has if i'm not mistaken 3 electorates during elections.

By the way the current Puerto Rican Governor which is freely elected is Sila Maria Calderon. Actually the voters in Puerto Rico are divided to the at the last Referendum 48% want to remain as a Commonwealth a big drop since in the 60's, 60% was in favor to keep its status as a Commonwealth. Then its 46% not 43% who wants to be the 51st State and and the rest are for those favoring Independence or the undecided population.

From Beyond Essence

-----

As we bring you the latest news and photos of Miss Earth 2002 as part of our special coverage, a sad thing happened. While Filipino pageant fans here in the Philippines and around the world continues to hope for a Filipina gem that would once again bring the Philippines the toast of the pageant community, I had stepped back closer in losing hope. It’s nice to see a post here in this message board (Beyond Essence) or from other message boards like Mabuhay Beauties and Global Beauties, giving pointers, suggestions feedback so that the search for that Filipina Gem would be realized. These however had not been given attention. Instead, what is happening is a clear case of politicking. It’s no wonder why we are not winning because of these things.

Interviews on newspapers by Rene Salud and other noted people who work inside the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. says that there is really politicking, a clear case of favoritism, anti-Filipina and other constructive criticisms worthy of saying. I now believe this. Filipinas were made to wear costumes made in other countries but many believe that costumes design by Filipino really is the one for the Filipina. Sending another candidate to another country to train is no assurance that we will win in international pageants. Filipinas train there says 1-2 weeks. If she started to train here for say months or 1 year prior to participating, it would be great.

Well why am I saying this? Because some groups or individuals are doing something to help about this, like us, who will train a candidate for 6 months or more before the actual local competition. That’s great, yeah Mabuhay Beauties to will have candidates. They will train them too. No! We are not competing with Mabuhay; we have the same mission, the same endeavors.

About that sad thing that happened, my lips are sealed right now. But you know what I’m talking about just basing from what I had posted. But not for long this would be a full blown news here in the pageant community in the internet and maybe in the Philippines and in the World. If worse come to worse we will ask for your help. Any lawyers around by the way? I’m sure our counterparts at all international message boards and website will not let us down when they will hear about this news.

Meanwhile, we ask you pageant fans to pray for a miracle, that some people may be enlightened, that they will not have hatred in their heart, that they will be happy instead of being jealous or whatsoever.

I dreamed of someday Filipinos will run BPCI, may GOD help us!!!

Thanks for taking time to read this. It's just that i can't keep it to myself so now you're reading what is in my mind. Long live the Filipina!

The Miss Cayman Islands 2002 pageant has been postponed until next year.

This was due to the low turnout of contestants for various reasons. The pageant organizers have also decided to restructure the event.

Due to this, we can't be very sure if the Cayman Islands would be represented in the Miss World 2002 pageant set for December 7 in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Miss Cayman Islands 2002 winner will surely compete in Miss Universe 2003.

I just read in various Turks & Caicos sites and messageboards that the Miss Turks & Caicos pageant lost the MU franchise last July.

The pageant originally set for July 26, 2002 was cancelled due to this. They said na it lost the franchise because it failed to cope with new MUO requirements and rules.

How sad. :mecry:

The Turks & Caicos Islands made it once in Miss Universe. It was in 1987, when Carmelita Ariza made it to the Top 10 in Singapore. She settled for 8th place overall.

BREAKING NEWS

The 2002 Miss Egypt Universe, Horreya Farghally gave her crown and title to her first runner-up, Nour El-Samry. Nour will represent Egypt in Miss Universe instead of Horreya. Horreya was the best contestant in Miss Egypt and everyone hoped to see her in Miss Universe, but many obstacles made her to give her title to the 1st runner-up.

http://www.gn4me.com/portal/entportal/newsImages/horeya.jpg
Horreya Farghally, Miss Egypt Universe 2003 passed her crown to her first runner-up after 3 months of being Miss Egypt. Horreya was attacked so much by the Egyptian press by writing tons of rumors about her including that she was married. Horreya decided to make a press conference and she answered all the expenses for this press conference and she asked all the journalists of Egypt including the journalists who are against beauty pageants to come to the press conference and she said that MISS EGYPT WANTS TO SAY SOMETHING. She didn't even say what she wanted from them. Then, during the press conference (picture above), she announced to give her title to the 1st runner-up.

53 of the most beautiful woman in the world converge here yesterday for the last preliminaries of the Miss Earth competition. Cebu’s famous Waterfront Hotel played host for the Long Gown Competition last night.

They arrived here last Wednesday morning and busied themselves with activities prior to the Long Gown Competition.

Miss Kosova Mirjeta Zeka was the last of the candidates to arrive here in the Philippines for the Miss Earth Pageant. Beautiful

FOOD FIASCO

The food fiasco that has happened here as Cebu City hosted breakfast for the candidates last Wednesday is still talk of the town. City Councilors and Administrators traded barbs as the pointing of fingers continues to whom they will blamed the incident.

Mayor Osmena said that it was an embarrassment for the city as the meal served for the Miss Earth candidates was worse than dog food. He said that his dog wouldn’t even eat the omelet served up by the caterer.

Osmena and some city officials lashed out Garces Catering Services for serving substandard food, consisting of soggy bam-i, longaniza, rice, stale bread and “close to rotten” fruits like mangoes and bananas.

The mayor, Vice Gov. John Gregory aguOsmena and Councilor Gabriel Leyson just contributed money to buy more fresh fruits for the pageant candidates.

Others comment that it should learned from what happened, that they should have hired the services of expert, who will assigned to handle special events and programs like the hosting of Miss Earth candidates.

MISS EARTH SCHEDULES

Miss Earth departed today to Bohol where a nature inspired fashion show will be held tomorrow night. Then on the 13th they will proceed to Guimaras Island for a whole day of tour. By 14 or 15 they will be back in Manila for rehearsals and final interview of the delegates.

MISS EARTH CONTROVERSY?

The National Director of Ghana is so upset about the competition last night that they plan to leave the country Monday with Miss Ghana Beverly Asamoah Jecty in tow. Other black delegates says they we might have seen the last of them. Will they boycott next year’s pageant? That we don’t know but it might be. This was because 1 international judge was here last night. They said that other contest such as Miss World and Miss Universe do have fair selection of judges.

But just this morning Carousel might have pulled a fast damage control that Ghana and other African countries decided to finished the pageant. It would have look bad for them if these candidates withdraw in the middle of the pageant. But next year for sure you cannot expect them to send anymore delegates.

Judges in the swimsuit and long gown competition held last night and last week were mainly composed of locals. Even some of them do not know how to score a candidates. “They don’t see a girl’s beauty beyond color”, the National Director of Ghana told me. As we were talking over early breakfast (2am just after the competition) Misses Nigeria and Uganda joined our table. Miss Nigeria Vanessa Ekeke said that she would just charged it to experience and that she has another international pageant to attend to. She’ll just enjoy it but don’t expect another Nigerian representative here last year. Miss Uganda Martha Semugera just laugh it off. She said that if they don’t like us then don’t.

So it seems this Polish girl would be going to Miss Universe after all, and not her 1st runner up.

She is studying to be a translator (translating Polish to German and Spanish) and she speaks perfect Spanish, so this would be a very big advantage for her in Panama. Not to mention she could capture the hearts of the locals.

Who will be Miss Missouri USA 2003?

The coronation night is on October 19, Saturday.

Here's my bet to win...

Leah Audrey Sexton of Three Trails

Leah also represented Missouri during Miss Teen USA 1997. She topped the entire preliminaries and semi-finals. She also received the highest interview score ever in Miss Teen USA history. She got a 9.84. Unfortunately, she did not advance to the Top 3 that year. Now, she's back with a vengeance!

I found the one I made for Bb. Pilipinas 2001! :bounce:

Of the top 10 semi-finalists, here are the top 5 (IMHO) who gave the best answers during the Interview competition:

1. Candidate #26 Christina Fandino
2. Candidate #4 Angela Silverio
3. Candidate #7 Zorayda Andam
4. Candidate #19 Sheryl Franco
5. Candidate #12 Maricarl Tolosa

It is mysterious to note that of these 5, only Zorah and Maricarl made it to the Final 5... Mmmm... :whatthe:

Of the top 5 finalists, here are the top 3 (IMHO) who gave the best answers during the Final Q&A:

1. Candidate #7 Zorayda Andam
2. Candidate #12 Maricarl Tolosa

Michelle Reyes and Maricar Balagtas did not answer the question at all kaya I ain't surprised that they didn't advance to the Magic 3...

PANAMA TO USE MISS UNIVERSE 2003 PAGEANT TO PROMOTE COUNTRY'S IMAGE
2003 Pageant Schedule and Coronation Night Site to be announced in a week

Panama City, Panama-Oct.10/02 (Fabio Agrana -EFE New Service) Panama is making substantial efforts to organize next year's Miss Universe pageant and hopes to take advantage of the international event to promote itself as a global tourist destination.

Panamanian Justine Pasek was crowned Miss Universe 2002 on Sept. 24 replacing Russian Oxana Fedorova.

The controversy syrrounding Fedorova's dismissal and the suprising crowning of Pasek, the runnerup in the competition, which took placr this year in Puerto Rico, helped Panama grab international media attention, extensive publicity and next year's pageant, a multi million dollar economic windfall for the country.

The members of the Panamanian committee that is organizing the event predict that, including all the details prior to and after its production, the pageant and its associated activities will last a total of 35 days.

The organizing committee includes the members of the government and the private Miss Universe Organization.

Panama became the official location for the Miss Universe 2003 Pageant last July 24, after formalizing the agreement between the Panamanian government and representatives from the international franchise that runs the beauty contest.

Of the $9 million that will be invested toward its production, $5 million is to pay for the rights to hold the pageant in Panama, said the government.

The remaining $4 million is to cover any costs that may arise, the majority of which will be paid by the sponsors, as well as by ticket sales and other activities to raise funds.

The organizers are confident that, by holding the pageant in Panama, the country will reap the economic benefits - for example, in the hotel sector, and they consider the event an investment by the Panamanian government.

The pageant in which 84 contestants will vie for the title of the most beautiful woman in the world, will be broadcast to more than 120 countries by the US television network NBC.

Panama hopes to take advantage of the nine minutes of direct ransmission time the Miss Universe Organization has given it to promote itself to the world as an attractive and diverse tourist destiniation.

Panama City Mayor Juan Carlos Navarro, a member of the organizing committee, said that Panama has a "fantastic opportunity" to present itself to the world and share its culture.

Miss Universe Organization president Paula Shugart, spent the past week in Panama to observe the progress and technical details of the competition and said that 2003's competition will be one f the best in pageant's history.

Shugart, however could not avoid the questions about the Fedorova case, but she deflected them saying that the matter is in the past and that the organization is happy with Pasek for the "fabulous" job she is doing.

She added that, for the moment, everything is fine and that the organization has placed its trust in the ability of the Panamanians and the charisma and enthusiasm of the current Miss Universe.

Shugart also announced that in one week the location where the competition will take place will be made public. It will probably be held next May.

The event could be celebrated in the Atlapa Convention Center, which is built on the Calzada de Amador, at the Pacific Coast entrance to the Panama Canal.

The Miss Universe contest also coincides with the Panamanian Republic's centennial anniversary (1903-2003) and its organizers have indicated that this fact will also be higlighted.

Chill naman ako eh hehehe. Yeah I forgot to comment on the girls planting trees while in swimsuit. Medyo time warped ata ang mga organizers ah. Some things never change talaga. I find that kinda sexist kasi it degrades the girls eh, these are one of the reasons why a lot of feminist groups are fuming when it comes to beauty pageants. That's the reason why Miss Universe and Miss World are trying to change the impression of beauty pageants, disregarding the idea that it's a meat market, ito naman Carousel Productions is doing going backwards naman.

I remember back in 1994 during Miss Universe, the girls also planted trees but in their casual dresses.

You heard that right — a beauty pageant whips a national sporting event finals broadcast. And, the news gets even better when you look at the numbers: Miss Universe had a 9.1 overnight rating, compared to the NBA game's 7.3 — a convincing drubbing, by Nielsen ratings standards. What's more, the pageant's overall 8.1 rating is 40 percent better than the Miss Universe pageant's ratings from a year ago, bringing smiles to co-owner Donald Trump and company.

The pageant not only won its time slot, but also came in 7th in the Nielsen ratings among all TV shows for the entire week, with 11.3 million viewers. That was enough to beat out, among others, 60 Minutes and Friends!

The Tribune Company's Orlando Sentinel Sports section, in noting the overnight results in its "What's the buzz?" column, called the defeat "a sobering fact," and speculated that "Maybe it was because football analyst Phil Simms played host to the ladies."

We'd like to think that, given the choice between watching lanky men running around on a hardwood floor or gazing at the world's most gorgeous women promenading before them, America's TV viewers were faced with a no-brainer. Picking the pageant was a slam dunk!

BREAKING NEWS

Miss South Africa withdraws from pageant.
by Sonnette Lombaard
http://www.dispatch.co.za/2001/12/17/southafrica/Images/MISSSAP1.JPG

Johannesburg- Sun International, owner of the Miss South Africa pageant, has decided to withdraw Vanessa Carreira from this year's controversial Miss World competition in Nigeria.

Carreira confirmed on Thursday that she would not be taking part in the international contest in Abuja, Nigeria.

The event was postponed by one week to December 7, because the original date would have seen the pageant staged in the middle of the Muslim fasting period, Ramadan.

Earlier, some of the participants said they were concerned about their safety after local Muslim groups threatened to disrupt the pageant.

The Nigerian first lady, Stella Obasanjo, said the Miss World event had been postponed because of "sincere considerations for our Muslim brothers and sisters".

Carreira said she had to crown the new Miss SA at Sun City on December 8, one day after the Miss World pageant. "It would have been practically impossible to be back by then."

She said she was disappointed about not going to Nigeria, but added that she had at the start of her reign only been guaranteed participation at the Miss Universe pageant. She came fourth in that competition in Puerto Rico earlier this year.

A storm erupted around this year's Miss World competition when representatives from several countries threatened to withdraw because of a local Islamic court's decision to stone an unwed mother to death.

Human rights groups criticised the organisers for holding an event for women in a country that "disregards women's rights".

When the organisers indicated that the contest might be moved to another country, president Olusegun Obasanjo intervened and gave his assurance that no women would be stoned in Nigeria for adultery. He said women sentenced to death by an Islamic court could appeal to the higher court "where justice will be served".

Contestants from many countries have since announced that they will take a strong position on and action against the fate of the unwed mother, Amina Lawal (30), while in Nigeria.

Representatives of more than 100 countries will take part in this year's pageant.

The crowning ceremony will be broadcast live to 140 countries with the expected number of viewers estimated at about two billion.

The current Miss World is Nigerian Agbani Darego, the first black woman from Africa to wear the crown.

Aba, we can be a judge in this year's pageant through txt votes. We can even win a trip to Nigeria! From Nov 11-Dec 6. :) And to think RP is the txt capital of the world..hehe. Naalala ko nung 1996... doon sa Cybernook ng La Salle there was one Saturday morning na ang daming nag-vote for Aileen Damiles! Kaya hayun! Nanalo. Nag back2back pa. Then nung panahon ni Jewel Lobaton may voting din. The Philippines was way ahead during the first few days then biglang humataw ang Puerto Rico. :D

Some Miss Earth 2002 observations & thoughts... :D

-The opening portion (with those chants) strongly reminded me of the MU95 opening in Windhoek, Namibia...

-Although the stage set up is cool to the eye (light blue kasi eh), it's so empty and barren... There ain't any touch of Filipiniana or nature...

-Miss Bosnie & Herzegovina's Vietnamese-inspired get up was just unflattering and unimpressive at all...

-There are a lot of blue gowns this year. Blue is my fave color all right... Pero I just don't think it's the best color for evening gowns...

-Miss USA Casie Burns deserved to be left out. She didn't deserve to be sent here in the very first place...

-Miss India Reshmi Ghosh may have aced the evening gown competition... but she obviously failed big time in the swimsuit competition... Ang lalaki ng pata at balakang niya! Tapos may malaking balat pa sa left thigh... What a turn off...

-Miss Puerto Rico Deidre Rodriguez's gown was the exact one Brenda Liz Lopez wore during the MU99 prelims...

-It's good to see a black semi-finalist for the very first time! I'm glad she aced the interview competition! She deserved it big time!

-Marc Nelson was a good choice... Compared to Dingdong Dantes last year...

-Bianca Araneta and Pia Guanio's stint reminded me of Elle MacPherson and Naomi Campbell back during MU2001...

-Bianca's Hispanic features easily put her at par with the Latinas during this year's pageant...

-Their yellow swimsuits during the semi-final swimsuit competition looked like those worn during the 70's...

-Miss Bosnia & Herzegovina's hairdo and aura greatly brought back memories of Oxana... *sigh*

-As always, ang tagal ng mga commercial breaks... Tapos late pa nagsimula... Kainis...

-I strongly believe Miss Greece Patricia Drossou is a relative of model Nafsika Drossou of Cal Carrie's...

-Miss Venezuela Dagmar Votterl's performance was sooo poor and mediocre. I told you-- as long as Osmel doesn't send delegates to Miss Earth, walang mangyayari sa Venezuela... Kulelat palagi...

-Miss Colombia Diana Botero ain't so perfect pala at all... Check out her pimples kapag close-up ng camera...

-Gumanda nang todo si Miss Philippines April Perez. I believe she deserves the Miss Photogenic award!

Bosnia & Herzegovina won because of her good showing throughout the entire pageant. Kenya got that far coz of she shone so bright tonight! And she deserved it! I'm happy that finally a black woman gets well-deserved recognition!

-I strongly believe Miss Greece Patricia Drossou is a relative of model Nafsika Drossou of Cal Carrie's...

Highly possible. Miss Greece, according to fellow PExer nice_only_child, is part Pinay.

Round up for Miss Earth 2002

1. Stage - masyadong dull. Sobrang simple para sa isang pageant na kagaya ng Miss Earth. Napansin niyo ba yung waterfall? chaka...
2. Venue - ang kandidata na ang nagsabi na mainit. Alagaan naman sana sila.. Pinapapahagard sila sa backstage... i wonder its hell there talaga...
3. Crown - nag-improve na yung crown. (Bagay kay Ms. Bosnia yung crown). Hindi kagaya last year na chaka talaga.
4. Interpreter - nakakahiya talaga siya. Jensie_G. I agree talaga. Nakakaawa talaga sila Colombia at Peru. Walang kakuwenta-kuwenta ang interpreter. Nakakawalanggana siya...
Hagard yung ginawa niya
7. Nakakaloka lang yung ibang sponsors...
8. As usual matagal dahil sa commercial...
10. Hindi magaling ang director...
11. Epal talaga si Miss Great Britain.
12. Question? Chaka...

Yun lang... Hehehe... :)

shnicky: Hi again! Hehe! :D

-What's with the waterfall? Wala akong napansin na waterfall ah... Saang part uli yun? :wondering:

-I've a question... Is the Folk Arts Theater an open-air theater? Parang may nabasa ako dati na it is... Kung ganun... mainit nga talaga! Napaka-humid nowadays eh... Kawawa nga ang mga delegates... :(

-Yup! Nag-improve nga yung crown! I agree with you on that!!!

-I wonder kung saang lupalop nila kinuha yung interpreter na yun! Hindi ba nila pinakain yun ng dinner or what!?!?! Pathetic!!!

-Ayoko rin sa "The Hunks"... Nagmukha tuloy cheap yung production... Blecccch... Saka tama ka... Ano ba yang pauso ni Piolo... Mukha siyang HINDI NALIGO after 9 mornings! Nyahahahaha!

-Lousy songs were used during the evening gown presentation and competition. It's so ancient and dull...

-Yup! Grabe talaga ang mga sponsors. Nasa kultura na nga nating mga Pinoy yan... Oh well... *sigh*

-Hindi ko napansin yung napansin mo about the rest of the delegates when Miss Bosnia & Herzegovina was announced as the winner... Hmmmm... Bakit nga kaya?

The interpreter really sucked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. They could've just hired my Spanish professor in Instituto Cervantes were CSB and DLSU students attends their Spanish lssons. I knew from Miss Spain, then to Peru and Colombia that the interpreter really messed up and practically ruined their chances.

I really think Kenya should've won. Can you the delegates reactions, they were clearly rooting for her. But well-done Miss Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This year's Miss Earth is truly DISGUSTING. Ang pangit! Last year was definitely better.

I hardly saw the nature theme throughout the whole pageant, except for the interview. I thought I'd see again the candidates being introduced while saying a little piece about saving mother earth. The competition was like a SEX SHOW. Did you see the swimsuit portion? The camera kept on focusing on their legs and breasts. Plus Marc Nelson's remarks about 'hot' things is very uncalled for for a host.

Carousel Productions still hasn't learned from their Mutya days. THEIR INTERPRETERS SUCK! That Spanish interpreter was really an embarassment for the whole country. It was so embarassing when he admitted in Colombia's interview that he lost track of what she said. In her introduction he obviously paraphrased what she said...as said by Marc Nelson. The crowd is obviously not satisfied...he can't fool all of us!

Production sucks! It was like an ASAP show! It's obviously less-budgeted and the venue is very ugly. The crowd was also constantly flashed during the interview portion...ang pangit ng reaction ng tao (well medyo undertandable naman). The stage was cheaply done, very ABS-CBN. No grandeur, no lavish production.

The pageant was so commercialized! I pity the girls who had to go through all those store and office visits just to parade themselves! It's so pathetic they have to pose in front of cameras to endorse cocolife insurance, banco filipino, mirror magazine, and heck they even went to a cheap tabloid's office! I'm sure they're very tired. They spent more time doing commercial endorsement rounds than practicing for very good production numbers.

And worst of all, NIGERIA SHOULD HAVE WON! I know, I know, the winner is beautiful...but the trend with pageants now is the candidate's intelligence is given premium over beauty. Kenya won the hearts of the people with her very convincing and sincere answers.

Hah! And to think I stayed very late! I slept with a heavy heart full of disgust and embarassment! It's really disappointing. Now I see the reason behind the disgust of Lara_D and company.

Carlene, I hope you send your mother company a copy of oru post-Miss Earth comments!

power(bubbles): I agree with you!!! Kenya should've won! Bosnia & Herzegovina only won because of her looks pero kung tutuusin, Kenya really nailed it during the Final Q&A!!!

Apostle: It wasn't MU2002's stage that they were immitating... they were immitating EVERYTHING IN GENERAL!!!

lipovitan: Kenya should join Miss Kenya Universe 2003 in March. It's never too late for her. There's always a second chance...
