Pond’s Femina Miss India finalists announced

TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ SATURDAY, MARCH 06, 2004 02:19:14 AM ]

MUMBAI: A TV news anchor, an automobile engineer and a classical dancer are among the 29 contestants chosen from an overwhelming 6,000 entries for the Pond’s Femina Miss India 2004 contest.

The announcement of the finalists, which was made on Friday, started the countdown to the country’s most popular beauty pageant which will be held at the Bandra-Kurla Complex on March 27.

Dressed slinkily and exuding confidence, the girls sashayed down the ramp before the media at the Ambassador Hotel. The svelte line-up was chosen by a selection panel comprising fashion photographer Subi Samuel, model Cleo Issacs, former Miss India Neha Dhupia, Femina editor Satya Saran and managing director of Times Infotainment Media Limited A.P. Parigi.

While many of the contestants come from the fashion industry there are also those like Jyoti Jha, a double degree holder in aircraft maintenance and automobile engineering, and Shivalika Sharma, who is doing her Masters in Computer Applications in Pune.

The girls’ role models include both women of style and substance—former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen to late NASA astronaut Kalpana Chawla figured prominently, but surprisingly, Mother Teresa did not.

Their views on ‘beauty’ were as pat as their carefully appliedm ake-up. Beauty, they said, was something that reflected the inner self, something that could be felt through the purity of the soul, a state of mind.

The finalists will go through a training programme at the ITC Grand Maratha Sheraton to prepare for the big event. Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri is the associate sponsor and official jeweller and Vandana Luthra Curls and Curves the official nutrition consultant.

sadike: i don't remember Maricar's answer word for word. si rhea santos ang nabunot niyang judge and rhea asked na if maricar were the country's leader, what would she want to accomplish in 1 year? Maricar answered na education is what is needed... etc... etc...

i have yet to get me a copy of a bb. pilipinas 2004 tape so i can post the interview transcripts here.

Musique: no news on the miss universo paraguay 2004 winner. news travels slow in paraguay especially on sundays.

stay tuned. *okay*

maricar...finally...
she didnt give an excellent answer, but it was enough to give her the crown.

patricia francisco was a big disappoinment. parang pang little miss philippines ang lakad. sobrang sayang ang looks nya. before, kala ko sya sa universe or world. pero she deserved not to land a slot in the finals because of her poor catwalk skills.

June 1 pa ang Miss Universe??? Why so late???

JENSIE_G
Mar 7, 2004, 10:28 PM
yorimoto: originally it's held during the month of may.

however, last year it was pushed back to june 3 because the figali convention center (the pageant venue) was being constructed along with the panama canal village. they moved it to june to give it ample time to be constructed.

last year's pageant had very high ratings. a lot have speculated that it must have been the coronation date that was instrumental in these high ratings.

as a consequence, the miss universe org decided to hold the pageant in june once again.

the miss usa pageant, which is traditionally held in february, will be held in april right after easter.

the miss universe org, along with tv sponsor NBC, is experimenting with pageant coronation dates to study the movement of the ratings.

I just wanna post this to get it over with... :D

Bb. Pilipinas 2004

TOP 10 - why they made it:

#19 BALAGTAS- what more can i say? has MU written all over her. nuff said.

#10 BAUTISTA- she has this unique charm. can't explain eh. basta exotic aura.

#17 BAYOT- past pageant experience saved her. add this to the big big cheering squad she had last night.

#20 JAVELONA- she won best in long gown. also noteworthy are her pinay features...

#1 TIONGSON- pretty pretty lea salonga clone. she also had a stunning gown. everything was in place- her hair, make-up, gown and bling-blings.

#14 GASCON- past pageant experience saka sex appeal. yun lang.

#3 BATERNA- pretty pretty face that reminds me of reham snow tago. besides, her gown was great.

#6 DEL ROSARIO- confidence. she had tons and tons of it. yun lang. haha. pero trying hard na aileen damiles siya. ginaya pati hairdo. haha.

#9 GATDULA- only because she won miss photogenic. and past pageant experience. yun lang.

#21 FLORES- i love this girl. i knew she'd get in. she's a better and sexier version of angelika dela cruz. sex appeal ang numero unong rason why siya pasok.

sadike: well sayang talaga si patricia. maganda ang gown niya pero the fitting was just not right. naging laughing stock siya tuloy nung evening gown competition. saka let's face it... she lacks the height to make it big. she can join pa naman eh. i-polish lang nya catwalk skills nya kasi mahalaga yun.

about joan de mesa naman... her non-inclusion into the top 10 remains a mystery to me too. i think it was a poor evening gown choice that did her. pero she had great catwalk skills. supermodel eh.

sadike Well, accdg. to other beauty pageant threads I've seen, Patricia Francisco was poor in catwalk skills & her height is quite shorter to be noticed... many pageant enthusiasts were extremely disappointed to her performance that night... I think they chose Maricar because she has the experience in the pageant arena. Although, she lacks communication skills back then when she competed in BBPilipinas01, I think it can be honed by some coach & eventually be perfected & some posters say she wasn't the same as before n tumatagilid s Q&A... But, of course, we hope that she is really confident & well-train to capture the crown in Quito...

Patricia Francisco's evening gown performance greatly reminded me of Miss Uruguay Leonora Dibueno back in Miss Universe 1994.

Leonora's black gown was nice (the cut was awesome)... until she walked on stage during the preliminaries. She just couldn't! It was very constricted. Tapos proud pa siya na she designed it herself. Naging laughing stock siya that week. And she got a low score for that.

To be able to get noticed, you gotta know how to walk and glide on stage.

anyways, about bb. pilipinas, ok naman. although i really was hoping that tracy javelona gets a title, either universe or world. even desiree verdadero was betting on her. and after she got her third special award, i thought she's a shoo-in for a title. pero ok lang naman. karla and ma-an also are my original bets. ma-an is just perfect for miss international. she looks like shonali nagrani, 1st RU in the last miss intl, prettier pa nga. i still don't like maricar but since everyone seems to like her, ok na lang din. she's a very determined woman. di ko lang makalimutan yung "bill (beeeel)" nya. i wish them the best of luck.

My ten cents

1. It's preposterous that Jeanne Harn did not even make it to the top 10. Same with AizaB...what's-her-name.

2. Patricia was one of my favorites pre-pageant but her thick neck and stubby legs did not escape the cameras that night and she had looked too eager to please. Sayang.

3. Maricar Balagtas looks OLD; so NOT fresh. I'm looking at the other bets for MU this year and the other girls look so young and vibrant, compared to her. Javelona might have had a better shot... but my real concern is that, Maricar looks so prepped and made up already. what else can they do to her? Wala nang room for improvement and sadly, her best is far from good.

4. Tiongson performed really well on pageant night. Why was she only a runner up?

5. ...then again, the roster of judges this year is rightful as such, as usual. Richard Guttierez? Head of the Somalian Diplomatic corps? Kelan pa maaayos to?

sadike: hi! salamat for visiting the thread regularly. pero lalaki po ako. paul ang pangalan ko. :)

MingTsai: yep lalaki nga.

when pex went down in march last year, nagulo ang sistema. threads no longer end when it hits the 200-page mark. that's the reason why we've reached 227 pages.

angelina_jolens: jeanne was originally on my list. a lot of peeps bet on her. she has the look to make it in international pageants. however, she dug a hole for herself by choosing the wrong gown and worst, the wrong hairdo. her hair was her crowning glory. why bring it up?

aizza, naman, was not fully toned. her swimsuit performance wasn't really flattering. she can join pa naman. not the end of the road yet. she's photogenic pa naman.

princess ended 1st runner-up simply because maan and karla outshone her. and besides, kapos siya sa height. over the years, there were other ladies who didn't make it far due to height concerns. one was elena andaya who gave the best answer during the q&a last year... she didn't advance to the top 5, sadly.

laughtrip si dingdong... "diplomatic corps" :rotflmao:

haaay...while looking at the winners for BB Pilipinas, I said to myself, "Expect another lackluster year."

Too bad Jasmine Tiongson only made it as runner-up. Her answer was fine. But oh well, IMO the judges preferred the lengthy, made-for-the-pageant answers. I do hope Jasmine will win in Miss Tourism International (or at least make a good showing).

Is it possible na magkaroon ng "per province" na labanan for Binibini? Just wonderin.

Another TV shocker, ABC 5 acquired the rights of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2004.

Not only that, the coverage will be a 14-week long training. MALA-STARSTRUCK ITO.

this year, BBP finally came up with good set of winners...they picked the right girl for every pageant...galing...kudos!...4 of my top 5 choices made it (balagtas, bayot, bautista, javelona...tiongson was in my top 10)...whatever happened to harn...i agree, the gown and hair were just not right...my sentimental fave is javelona...equally deserving either of the bbp-universe or world crown, but bautista will do good...big disappintment was francisco...what more can i say?...whew...

guys, what can you say bout this post-pageant issue that the contest was rigged in favor of balagtas and bayot?...no top 5...the other brainy bets were left out of the top 10...questions are much, much easier...i myself would like to conclude that it was actually rigged in favor of the two but i must say it's a good thing that they did that...hehehe...

for me this year's batch of winners are the best set of winners in years.
maricar deserved to be there and win the miss u title she could be the nxt filipina miss universe.he could easily make the cut given right gown and training.carla gay was not great but place 17th at miss u last year.maricar could do better.her height is only 5'7 1/2 it could be her windfall or her interview is her weakness. if polished in interview she will make the cut at miss u.

margaret is cute and flawless beauty.she could easily make the cut at ms. international broke the none placement of country in this pageant since 1999.

ma. karla bautista is most elegant and the most articulate of the three.she had something in her that i really like.photos will not do justice to this girl.tall at 5'9 and only 19 she will make the top 20 at miss world 2004 ill bet she will or even surpass mafae's feat last year.i will not be suprise.

goodluck girls' i like the changes done this year no top five only top ten and that is better for me.

starczamora: the "per province" concept has been suggested na to bb. pilipinas charities a long time ago.

madame araneta is a busy person. most of the time, she's out of the country. i don't think they have to time to go province to province to promote the pageant and search for winners.

what they implement lang is the standard registration and application process that begins as early as december. from the hundreds of applicants, the number is trimmed down to usually 25-30, and they then make up the official candidate roster.

pero your idea is a good one. who knows, ma-implement na talaga yan sa near future.

Let's talk about Miss Universe 2004. Wanna share my analysis and assessment of this year's upcoming pageant.

So far we have 44 confirmed delegates na for Ecuador. Around 30 to go pa. Marami pang countries na wala pang delegates.

CARIBBEAN
Wala pang Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic and Jamaica. So far, Puerto Rico saka Trinidad & Tobago ang malakas. Pareho pang matangkad. There are a lot of tall women this year from this region.

Dominican Republic's bet is training sa Puerto Rico. Curacao's bet naman is preparing in Venezuela.

SOUTH AMERICA
I'm sure this continent is rejoicing. After 22 years, the Miss Universe pageant returns to them. Malakas ang labanan dito. Of course, Venezuela ang front-runner (as always). Di sila magpapatalo sa Ecuador. The last time South America hosted MU, wala ang Venezuela sa semi-finals. Kaya Osmel Sousa is definitely out for the kill again this year. Miss Venezuela is undergoing a number of surgeries. According to a Venezuelan friend, the makeover would be "radical" and magugulat na lang tayo. Magaling din si Moises Kaswan, yung Israeli dentist nila. They pattern their queens' smiles and teeth after actress Farah Fawcett, formerly part of the original Charlie's Angels.

Malakas din ang Ecuador. Knowing na host country sila, they chose the best girl to represent them in June. Si Susana ay super ganda na she reminds me of MU99 2nd RU Diana Nogueira of Spain. Sa Puerto Rico magte-train si Miss Ecuador.

We still have to wait for Brazil, Chile, Uruguay. Ewan ko if Argentina is sending a delegate. Malabo ata. Economic problems ata uli.

I've heard the Miss Brazil winner would once again be training in Venezuela. Chile, on the other hand, is returning after a year's absence. Buti naman. Yung Uruguay naman ay sa April din magse-select ng ipapadala sa MU. The Bolivian agency Promocciones Gloria is in charge of selecting their queen.

There are also a lot of tall women from this continent. Daming amazonas.

NORTH & CENTRAL AMERICA
USA saka Guatemala na lang ang kulang para makumpleto ang delegates ng region na ito.

Marami ring magaganda from here kaso the real challenge will be on USA. For 2 consecutive years, wala sila sa Top 10. Natatalo na sila unti-unti ng Canada. USA has to select a mala-bombshell na Ali Landry para ipadala sa Ecuador to redeem themselves.

Magaganda ipapadala ng Panama, Mexico, Canada saka Honduras. The rest, so so lang. Pero we have to wait and see pa. Anything could happen.

EUROPE
Marami pang wala sa Europe. Spain, Slovenia, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Slovak Republic, Denmark (babalik daw after a 3-year absence). Portugal is again missing in action pero I hope they send a delegate na lang come May.

Europe is the continent that sends the most number of delegates to Miss Universe every year. Around 20 ata per year. Marami kasing bansa dito.

So far, ang tunay na stunners ay Russia, France, Belgium, Norway. Okay din ang Finland, Germany saka Poland. Ang hirap talaga pumili. Iba na kasi ang beauties na pinapadala ng Europe. Mala-supermodels na and not simply beauty queens.

MEDITERRANEAN & THE MIDDLE EAST
One country that we should watch out for is Greece. Since it's hosting the Summer Olympics in August this year, they are beefing up the campaign to select the best delegate for Miss Universe. It would be an honor for them to win Miss Universe habang host sila ng Olympics. Sa April 19 ang national pageant nila.

Aside from Greece, ang hinihintay na lang ay Albania, Israel, Turkey and Egypt. Matakot tayo sa Israel. Ang gaganda ng delegates for the Miss Israel pageant this year. Flawless lahat. Sa March 22 sila. Sa Egypt naman, I heard a number of models have enlisted in their local pageant. Bilib din ako sa Egypt, since they joined MU in 1987, they never placed or won any special award pero ibang klase ang drive nila to send their girls to MU every year.

ASIA & THE LANDS DOWN UNDER
So far, we have 3 delegates pa lang from Asia. Pinas, Korea saka newcomer Vietnam. Honestly, tayo ang strongest as of the moment. Pero Vietnam could pull a surprise. Baguhan eh. Uso ang "beginner's luck" sa MU.

Vietnam would be training in Thailand. Okay din naman yun for a beginner. Maricar naman is expected in Colombia shortly after Holy Week. Magugulat na lang daw tayo sa national costume and evening gown niya. We have contacted MUO President Paula Shugart. Ibabalik ang national costumes sa parade of nations this year. This explains why many countries are preparing their best national costumes for this year.

We still have to wait for the delegates of Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and the Northern Marianas.

Maraming malalakas sa Japan this year. This country has finally seen the light after years of being lost. Pero delikado din ang China. They have included their southern provinces the national pageant search nila. Maraming magaganda sa South eh. Shempre may Shanghai pa. Yun ang beauty capital nila. Sa April din ang national pageant sa China.

AFRICA
Sa Africa naman, Nigeria saka Ethiopia na lang ang hinihintay. Although there were previous reports na Ghana won't be sending a representative again, I am hoping susulpot na lang sila.

So far, Angola saka Mauritius ang malakas. Miss Mauritius is the tallest among the Africans we have so far. South Africa naman is the shortest, at 5'5". Pero we don't know what they are capable of. Powerhouse yan ng Africa eh.

Miss Angola trained in Brazil pala. She was in Rio last month for 2 weeks. Her wardrobe is entirely Brazilian-made.

Persistence pays off for pageant winners
Posted: 11:39 PM (Manila Time) | Mar. 07, 2004
By Marinel Cruz
Inquirer News Service

CAREER pageant contestants Maricar Balagtas, Mary Ann Bayot and Ma. Karla Bautista, dominated last Saturday's Binibining Pilipinas beauty search, proving that trying and trying can lead to success.

Balagtas was crowned Bb. Pilipinas Universe, Bayot won the Bb. Pilipinas International title, while Bautista copped the Bb. Pilipinas World title.

All three candidates had competed, and won, in other national and international pageants in the past.

Third time

"This is my third time to join the Binibining Pilipinas," Balagtas told the Inquirer shortly after the ceremony at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

Balagtas was 17 when she first made it to the pageant, and 19 the second time. "I hope to bring home the Miss Universe crown this time," added the professional model from Bulacan.

"I wasn't disheartened by losing," she said. "I was very young and naìve then. It doesn't matter how many times you fall. What matters is how well you stand after that fall."

Balagtas, 21, won the Bb. Pilipinas second runner-up title in 2001 and was crowned Miss Globe 2001 in Turkey.

Ready

"I really prepared for this one," said Bayot. "The pressure in on because this is my second time. I made sure that I was at my very best. All the hard work paid off."

Bayot, 21, was last year's Bb. Pilipinas first runner-up. She eventually landed second in the Miss Internet WWW search in Turkey.

Bautista, 19, is a first-time contestant in Bb. Pilipinas. She, however, is the reigning Miss Cebu. She also won this year's Best in Long Gown title.

She said she was very happy that she won over "more experienced" candidates. "I was so nervous," she said. "I didn't know what to think. It was tough out there."

Crucial question

Candidate No. 1 Princess Jasmine Tiongson won the second runner-up title, while Tracy Ann Javelona, candidate No. 20, was proclaimed first runner-up.

Balagtas earned the judges' nod when she confidently answered a crucial question by GMA 7 newscaster Rhea Santos, saying she would work on improving education in the country if given the chance to lead.

"Education is the key to this country's success. I will pass a bill that would give equal... and nice education to children," said Balagtas, who also won the Best in Swimsuit title.

Included in this year's 10 finalists were Honeylet Gascon and Gemma Gatdula, who both finished fifth in their respective batches at the Miss Philippines-Earth pageant. Other finalists were Christy del Rosario, Liwayway Baterna and Margaux Mitz Flores.

1999 Miss Universe first runner-up Miriam Quiambao, Dingdong Dantes and Ariel Rivera hosted the show.

Candidate Jeanne Harn won the Miss Talent title, while Stephanie Anne Balagtas bagged the Miss Friendship award.

Bayot was heralded Miss Lux Super Rich that night, while Balagtas won the Miss Philippine Airlines and Miss Internet awards.

Tiongson brought home the Miss Avon Color award, while Javelona, the Miss Close-Up Smile award.

Cebuana is Philippine’s bet to Miss World

CEBUANA model Ma. Karla Rabanal Bautista was crowned Bb. Pilipinas-World during the annual pageant at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City past midnight yesterday.

Bautista, 19, who was crowned Ms. Cebu in 2003, is scheduled to come home today which is incidentally International Women’s Day.

A believer in the equality of sexes herself, Bautista said “males and females should not compete but should complete each other.”

Like her victory in Miss Cebu, Bautista offered her crown to her mother, who passed away two weeks before she joined the local pageant in 2003, as well as her family and friends who believe in her.

“This is not just a per-sonal victory. A lot of people, not just my family, had the same dream for me. But the crown is really for her (my mother),” the 5’9” beauty queen told Sun.Star in a phone interview yesterday.

In the interview portion, her mother’s importance in her life was highlighted when she answered the question on what role she would like to portray if given the chance to be in the movies.

Bautista said she would like to play the role of a mother, the source of love, and “if it weren’t for them, we would all not be here.”

Although she did not win any special award and was not a crowd favorite like the winners of the Bb. Pilipinas-International and Bb. Pilipinas-Universe titles, Bautista said she earned good reviews from the press even during the preliminaries.

“I wasn’t expecting to win anything but I was very hopeful,” said the freshman Mass Communications student of the University of the Philippines Cebu College.

Up next

Aside from the crown, Bautista won a P100,000-cash prize, a P100,000-talent contract and an all-expense-paid trip to any destination, said her manager, Cebuano designer Chikoy Tomol.

Bautista, a member of the Models Association of Cebu (MAC), will compete in the Miss World pageant in China in November.

She will undergo more training in the meantime. She hopes to do well like Ruffa Gutierrez, who finished second runner-up in this pageant in 1992.

Last year, Cebu-based model Noela Mae Evangelista, who represented Iligan City, also landed in the top five while Cebu City’s Maria Carmen “Menchu” Antigua was one of 12 finalists picked from 27 candidates.

It was yet in 1996 when a Cebuana last won a title in the Bb. Pilipinas competition. Yedda Mendoza Kittelsvedt, also a model, won the Bb. Pilipinas-International crown. CYR

Bacoleña wins Bb. Pilipinas title

THE City of Smiles, Bacolod, has another thing to be proud of.

Tracy Ann Javelona, a 24-year-old lass who proudly claims to be a full-blooded Bacoleña, won as first runner-up in the Bb. Pilipinas pageant held at the Araneta Coliseum Saturday night.

Described as sociable yet humble, Tracy Ann, a daughter of Maximo Jr. and Rosario Javelona, who have roots in Silay City and Bacolod City, is not new to beauty pageants.

Since her grade and high school days at the St. Scholastica's Academy in Bacolod, Tracy was already into singing, dancing and modeling.

Beauty may just run in the family, as her brother is currently a model, while her niece is a Body Shots winner.

Standing 5'7" and measures 35-24-35, Tracy is now working as a flight attendant. She graduated with a degree of International Studies Majoring in European Studies at the De La Salle University in Manila.

Aside from being first runner-up, Tracy was also named Miss Avon and Best in Evening Gown.

Other winners include Ma. Karla Bautista -- Bb. Pilipinas World, Margarett Ann Bayot -- Bb. Pilipinas International, Maricar Balagtas -- Bb.Pilipinas Universe and Princess Jasmine Tiongson -- second runner-up.

Liwayway Baterna, another Negrense and a former Lin-ay sang Negros second runner-up and MassKara Queen third runner-up, landed in the top 10.

Meanwhile, in an internet report, some of Tracy's best friends named Irene, Bettina, Marjorie and Therese described her as an "adventurous lady."

Tracy is also very sweet, kind, compassionate, talented, generous and yet "kalog", according to Bettina.

For Therese, she said she learned six amazing facts about Tracy like her being a karaoke queen, dancing queen, a lady who could survive with just one glass of water a day, loves to travel anywhere, an adventurous and practical lady and a lady who always wears smiles even in the most difficult moments.

Challenge

Tracy was asked what is the best thing about joining Bb. Pilipinas.

"Being chosen as an official candidate is a challenge in itself. After the pageant, regardless of bagging the title or not, I am certain that I can be proud of myself for having surpassed all these," she said.

Tracy also said the best thing about being a Filipina is being beautiful! No other nationality can beat the beauty of Filipinas inside and out, she stressed.

On the other hand, Bacolod is still Tracy's favorite destination, a place she considers her original home.

This is where I can be with the people that matter most to me -- my family, she explained.

Tracy aimed at grabbing the title of Bb. Pilipinas-Universe for she considers it as the most prestigious title.

Asked who is the first person she called after winning the title? And what she will tell that person, Tracy said: "I will call a very good friend of mine in the States and I'll tell him: 'See? I told you I'll make you proud'." EASD

Transexual steals limelight at Miss Universe-China show
www.chinaview.cn 2004-03-08 15:42:28

Chen Lili, a Chinese transsexual, sings during the Sichuan regional competion of Miss Universe, March 7. She was granted an oppotunity to appear at the contest to display her good shape and look. The organizers say she can not enter the next phase of the beauty pageant because she is not born a woman. [sina]

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhuanet) -- The orange bikini and chocolate-color wig shone under the spotlight, outlining the enchanting figure of Chen Lili, a transexual Chinese woman, at the Miss Universe-China competition in Southwestern Sichuan Province.

Though barred from the contest because she was born a man, Chen was given the chance to perform on Sunday and she cut quite a figure, reported Monday's Shanghai Morning Post.

Pictures showed Li having her hair done in the dressing room, on the catwalk in a black suit with sequins all over, to the bikini show. "Chen seemed to outshine all the 37 beauty queen contestants on the stage," the paper said.

Chen was invited to address the audience before the contest. She talked about her country boy life and said she really "cherished the opportunity to perform here as it means so much to finally stand on this stage".

She performed the song "Wind Season" in Cantonese. Though trying to be feminine, her voice broke in parts, but still the audience gave her great applause.

Chen applied to enter the 54th Miss World Competition, but was denied entry in February as "it would be unfair to the other candidates if we allow a transsexual to participate", said a Sichuan official in charge of the contest.

The 1.73-meter-tall Chen Lili, formerly named Chen Yongjun, meaning "brave soldier" is a stunning fashion model in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.

She underwent a sex change operation last November in east China's Shandong Province, and picked up the new name "Lili", inspired by a popular Korean transsexual star "Harisu", or in Chinese "He Lixiu", who is her idol.

She was registered as a woman on her national ID from the Nanchong police authority in Sichuan on Feb. 11.

As Monday is International Women's Day and Chen's first women'sday, she had a list of activities with which to enjoy the occasionafter Sunday's performance.

"Shopping, facial, spa, I will do everything women enjoy to celebrate my first women's festival," she said. Enditem

I'm not surprised about the speculations that the pageant was riggid. Even I had these thoughts, but Maricar, IMHO is the most deserving to get the top plum. why? Because, like I said in my other post, she's the most prepared. Four years of pageant experience, she has the edge, technically she even surpassed the training of any Miss Venezuela.

And we all know perfectly that the girl going to Miss Universe has the shortest time to prepare, so I guess it's a very nice tactic for Stella, to get a girl who has definitely have the longest experience in pageants. Though I find Maricar's answers in teh Q&A so cliche and no dept, at least she has the manners to say, "thank you" and "good evening."

guys, what can you say bout this post-pageant issue that the contest was rigged in favor of balagtas and bayot?...no top 5...the other brainy bets were left out of the top 10...questions are much, much easier...i myself would like to conclude that it was actually rigged in favor of the two but i must say it's a good thing that they did that...hehehe...

PEACE

Just blame the make up artists for that. David's Salon's make up artists don't really go to seminars that's why their look is very old fashioned (like the Aranetas run their companies). Give her to a good make up artists and see her true beauty.

My ten cents

I'm really excited what will Maricar wear in MU!!! Very suspense... I hope they will exceed my expectations... Thanx Jensie_ G for all updates!!! sadike
wdstar Did Carla Balingit p laced 17th in MU2003... Well, no offense to Carla but there are more beautiful ladies than her & if this is true she really did well.... how 'bout andam... Back then when MU2001 were held, I really expected andam to be a shoo-in in semis because she was "rumoured" to be 2nd overall in Interview & did well in swimsuit... Unfortunately, she didn't make it...
If BPCI will implement the per province candidate.... It will look like MU.... 70+ candidates per year!!!

We were there and no one booed Maricar. Actually she got the loudest applause, and the most clicks from photographers.

Regarding Ruffa, she was confined sa hospital because she's pregnant again, i think there were some complications. Saw that yesterday in some gossip show sa GMA 7.
