Theres a conspiracy theory that myself and a friend formulated. We think that a candidate from the Eastern European Bloc/ Balkan state could bag the crown this year to get its people hooked to pageantries (ie. more $$$ for DOnald Trump) since the Latin states and some Asian (THailand, Phils and India for sure) are pageant crazed already. If that is so I have a feeling that Serbia, Greece or Russia might win it this yr.

Korsakov,
If you watched the video clips in the Miss Universe website, Miss Spain did not sparkle that night. And the reumors where, the reason why she did not sparkle because there was a Press favorite from the Carribean who called her fat before the prelimenaries... of course we know who this press favorite is.

I know, but my only point is that why can't we send girls as gorgeous as those who got in the Top 3? We should've learned the lesson from last year's Oxana Federova, but I wonder why Bb. Pilipinas can't get the hints, when in fact, they're very obvious!

still on Miss U, i think amelia answered the question incorrectly.
di ba she was asked what is the best gift she has given to somebody?
her answer was something like the letter that was given to her by her grandmother.
ang tanong kung ano ang naibigay niya, sagot naman niya yung kung ano ang the best na gift for her.
not sure, maybe i have to catch the replay later.

-Amelia Laisha Vega Polanco is the 3rd National Costume Award winner who went on to win Miss Universe. The other two were Porntip Nakhirunkanok and Wendy Fitzwilliam.
-It's the 3rd year in a row that Puerto Rico won the Photogenic Award. They've beaten us na sa back-to-back natin nung '96-'97. They are tied na to the Philippines. Both have 4 winners each of the said award.
-The Caribbean region is the most congenial of all. It has a total of 15 winners na. Add Kai Davis of Antigua & Barbuda who won the award kanina.

there's politics involved, add to that the "models" who joined bb pilipinas are either dumb, or that they should really stick to modelling. it's not enough that they have good catwalk skills.
as for miss venezuela, i would have liked her with less make up, coz at first, mukha shang amazona, but when they showed a vtr of her with not too much make - up, i think she's one of the prettiest miss venezuelas ....

Hello!!!
Well, congratulations to the newly crowned queen... Well, I guess we learned a lessone here that pageants like Universe or Miss World is not more than just getting a good lady who can rehearse their answers for the final questions but also has the beauty ... di ba sabi nga ni Guy Rex that they are looking more of beauty this year tapos ang theme is YOU ARE THE FACE OF PANAMA ... well ang ibig ko lang sabihin is that SOMETIMES FILIPINOS LOOK FOR THOSE WHO ARE SMART THAN THOSE WHO ARE REALLY MODELLIC. I must say that this perception is already obsolete... let us learn to face the fact that we are not competing for a declamation contest.
Sana naman, kahit papaano, ang ipinadala man lang natin ay yung si Anna Marie Falcon (doon sa official roster kasi siya yung pinaka-veteran) or the likes of
http://www.calcarrie.com/models/women/nina/01.jpg
Nina Naval, Supermodel of the World Philippines 1999
Sana may mahanap tayong better. next year watch out for these ladies:
1. Valerie Galang
2. Tanya Scaife
3. Paulette Quinto
4. Jinnah Lou Domino
By the way, BEST MODEL OF THE WORLD PHILIPPINES 2002 Female winner Gilmarie Pacamarra has already given birth and is already married. May we see you next year for Mrs. World na lang!!!!
BELATED CONGRATULATIONS TO MISS NOELA MAE EVANGELISTA for winning the Queen of Tourism International reaping several awards including best in oriental costume, best in long gown, and queen of tourism asia among others. BUTI PA SIYA DI NAGTRAIN SA COLOMBIA PERO NANALO SIYA and to think kalaban niya si MALGORZATA ROZNIEKA(former Miss International). Kahit small time pageant yun she really gave a good fight.
Miss Balingit did give a good fight...pero ika nga "I Gave my best but I guess my best wasn't good enough". Nice national costume and evening gown though pero mas bagay yun kay Jhezarie Javier.
Kay mafae, well you better start training dear bago ka lamunin nina Cindy Nell, Tugba Karaka, Miri Levy and Eva Ekvall in Hainan.
Jaimee Castillo is a friend of mine. She won the mutya di ba. Parang the same pa rin ang katawan niya...good luck sa contest.
Laura Marie Dunlap...hay naku!!! mas maganda ang mga runners up mo.
Naku!!!! I betted on Miss Dominican rep and I won...hehehe bubbles, ano ka ngayon 1st runner up ka lang!!!! hahahahaha. BRIDES MAID KA LANG (JOKE!!!)
wala lang me magawa ngayon here sa school e. Neways, sana matutunan natin talaga that even if interview counts beauty and BEAUTY ALONE will prevail...
and that ANG TALINO NG ISANG TAO AY HINDI NASUSUKAT SA PAPAANO SIYA MAG-DECLAME NG SAGOT kundi SA PARAAN NG KANYANG PAGPAPAHAYAG NG SAGOT NA KUNG SAAN NATURAL ITO AT PARANG NAKIKIPAGTALASTASAN (speak) LAMANG ITO SA TAO. PARANG KAUSAP LANG NIYA....
Jensie... miss ko na all. Kainis talaga noong summer at walang PEX...okay down ang PEX.

I was supposed to post this back but PEx conked out... so here it is. Make over shots of Miss USA 2003 Susie Castillo. A lot of them thought she would look like this in Miss USA. If she could have maintained this look, perhaps she would reach farther to the Top 10. So technically, for the second year in a row, USA did not reach the Top 10.

Interesting article
Miss Indias slipping on the ramp
Akash Arora
New Delhi, June 4
India’s assembly line of beauty queens has ground to a halt. After a bumper crop of seven international beauties — of which two were Miss Universe and four Miss World — during a seven-year span (1994-2000), suddenly no Miss India is making it big.
Current Miss India Nikita Anand didn't even make it to the top 15 at the Miss Universe 2003 pageant in Panama. So, are Miss Indias slipping big time on the international stage?
Says hair stylist Samantha Kochhar who worked on Anand’s hair “Blame it on overconfidence. After a string of Indian beauties did well, we thought the girls would make it on their own. But their complete look — from hair to skin to figure to clothes — is just not at par with international standards. We are sending our Miss Indias half-baked when intensive training and grooming is needed.”
Bollywood is another spoiler. “Even before a Miss India appears for the international pageant, there’s talk of her joining films. As a result they are never able to focus on winning the pageant, rather their sole ambition is to become yet another Ashwarya Rai,” says one of the experts who groomed Anand.
Besides, the best models don’t seem interested. Says top model Udita Goswami: “My career as a model took off shortly after I started modeling. So I never felt the need to be part of Miss India because I would have just ended up wasting three months taking grooming lessons and finishing classes that I really don’t require.”
Miss Universe first runner-up 1994 Manpreet Brar Walia says it’s just a case of over-expectation. “We expect them to win each year, which is not possible,” she says.
Mumbai-based skin specialist Dr Jamuna Pai, who was part of Anand's team, agrees: “I guess it’s a temporary phase and our girls will get back to (winning) sooner or later.”

Honestly her lips does bother me, like this caricature puts it, she looks like Barbie with those collagen injected lips. Her lips wasn't that pouty when she won her national pageant. Miss Universe indeed went a few years back for choosing this girl. 90's looking nga siya. This is not the modern woman Miss Universe has in mind with its redefined theme.

If this girl joined a few years back they would probably place. Femina thinks they can get away with it because their girls are the most eloquent, intellect isn't only the main focus today. It isn't just a matter of enriching your mind and soul, the body need some luvin attention as well.

Actually, Seriba would have placed higher. Jensie told me, Serbia's question during the first interview, the, "what country would you choose to live in" was already a give away. If she only said, "I'll choose Panama" she would get the audience approval and would have probably placed higer. Justine did that last year and look what place she originally got. She kissed some Puerto Rican a$$ hehehe

Watching the program, I noticed that the charismatic Mariangel was not really in the mood to hold hands and make beso with Amelia. The rumors about the Miss Universe could really be true. It was even Amelia who practically grabbed Mariangel for a congratulatory hug and beso!
Amelia could really be a great Miss Universe with her "kaplastikan;" putting up with everyone she meets. Or she could venture into another field such as showbiz. I like her and all but I just noticed that she looks like a young Lauren Ezersky! Well, Amelia could follow Lauren's career path after all!
Mariangel, though described by others as ugly, gay-looking, and un-Miss Venezuela is such a breather from the manufactured and stiff Miss Venezuelas of the last 15 years. Alongside Alicia Machado, she is very natural (literally and figuratively) and unassuming. Despite the hype and hullaballoo surrounding her late arrival in Panama, she deserved to be in the Top Five. I love her!

A Greek romance for Indian businessman
NEW DELHI: If you took London based businessman Abhishek Verma’s affair with Greek beauty Evelina Papantoniou to be a fling, then you are mistaken. His close friends reveal coming October, Verma will tie the knot with Papantoniou—his fiancee since one year.
Papantoniou won the crown of Miss Greece 2001 and in the same year became first runners-up in Miss Universe contest.
The first sparks flew between the duo during last year’s New Delhi International Fashion Week. According to his friends the wedding will take place on a ship in Goa in traditional Indian way. Complete with mantras and greek bahu donning a sari.
Sources close to Verma said ‘‘The wedding is expected to be attended by around 400 guests. Wedding ceremony will be followed by crazy party that will go on for 3-4 days.’’ They inform us that ‘‘his lady love visits Verma once every month.’’
At present Papantoniou is doing TV shows in Greece that she will continue after marriage too. As of now, she doesn’t plan to model in India.
‘‘Her charges are quite high. She is unlikely to be paid that much amount.’’ This picture, which has Papantoniou in a sari was shot at Indigo, a bar in Mumbai on New Year’s eve 2003.
According to his friends, on this occasion, Verma reportedly presented her with a she dog he had bought from Miami. The breed is called Chupa-Cabra after a mythological Spanish vampire.

NSW rejects Miss Universe
May 30, 2003
NSW has rejected an offer to host the 2004 Miss Universe pageant.
The decision was based more on money than reasons of taste, Tourism Minister Sandra Nori told Parliament.
"I can advise the house that after careful consideration of the cost involved, the Government has decided not to pursue it," she said to cries of 'shame, shame'.
She said there was little prospect of recouping the $15 million outlay for the event, which is owned by US billionaire Donald Trump and the NBC television network.
"I might point out that $US5 million of (the outlay) was going to go straight into one of Donald Trump's companies," Ms Nori said.
"And of course, there would by no means be complete community agreement with the idea of actually hosting the event."

Miss Guyana Universe 2004 show to be held this December
By Neil Marks
ODINGA Lumumba, the man behind the Miss Guyana Universe Pageant, has decided to select the country’s 2004 Miss Universe delegate this December, effectively cutting current queen, Leanna Damond’s reign by two months.
Lumumba’s last pageant was held on February 22, the eve of Guyana’s Republic anniversary celebrations. Many saw this as bad timing, and along with the disappointing intelligence level of the contestants, it made for a half-full National Cultural Centre on the night of the pageant.
The promoter is therefore hoping that a year-end pageant will bring in higher ticket sales.
Surprisingly, Lumumba has said that he already has two contestants on board for the December pageant, and that the delegates will be exposed to the media very early so as to allow for “public scrutiny”.
All the major international pageants, including Miss Universe, hold their interview segments behind closed doors - blocking any flops from public view.
Even as Lumumba plans for the year-end pageant, the reigning queen, Leanna, has stepped into a rigorous training schedule to prepare her for the Miss Universe 2003 Pageant June 3 in Panama City, Panama.
Washington-based professional image consultant, Omarosa Stallworth is in Guyana for 7-10 days to train Leanna in the areas of fitness, diet, skin tone, stage presence and the interview.
“Basically, we’re teaching Leanna to walk like a queen and talk like a queen”, Stallworth told reporters when she arrived.
Stallworth, a Howard University communications professor, has been doing professional image consultancy for the past ten years.
She worked with former Miss Guyana Universe Mia Rahaman last year.
Lumumba said that it is way cheaper to bring down the trainers here instead of sending Leanna to the United States for training.
Last year, Rahaman travelled to the United States and was put up at a posh Washington D.C hotel while undergoing training.
Lumumba said that this proved to be very costly for the patron and so this year, he thought it wise to bring down the trainers here.
A decision is yet to be made on whether to also bring down U.S-based Guyanese trainer Robert Dover.
Leanna has to be in Panama 19 days before the actual pageant.
Before leaving for Panama, she is scheduled to spend 7-10 days in the United States for a media campaign and also to visit a number of design houses.
While in the U.S, Leanna will also try on her competition gown, which is being designed by Dover.
The gown is expected to be simple yet elegant, given the trend these days.
Leanna’s national costume is being designed by local designer Derek Moore.
The costume will feature the Cacique Crown of Honour as the headdress, while the body will be made of material characteristic of Guyana’s ethnic groups.
The costume, which will be worn in the introductory segment of the Miss Universe competition, will feature items such as buck beads, Indian jewellery, African prints and the flag of Guyana.

it's a pity that Venezuela lost to that tranny looking b!tch. Dominican Rep is not even pretty. But, i've got to admit that she has a nice body and a nice gown. i really like the straps in her shoulders and hands. but Venezuela and Serbia and Montenegro and even South Africa and Japan should place higher than the bruja from the Carribbean. sana madethrone c Dominican Rep.
I really like the posture, stance and elegance of Venezuela, exudes power and confidence talaga.

Next year, the sequins, the jewelry, and the too-pulled together look have to go. More minimalism and focus on the body and face, please!

Miss USA 2003 Susie Castillio will always be remembered as the Miss USA with the weirdest fashion sense (not to mention tacky). Her gown did not strike me back in Miss USA, and especially now. A beautiful face (which she has) has to have a beautiful gown. It still won't cut it if you can carry it well, this dress is really distracting in the eyes. Her Miss U look is far from her formal pics. Because of poor choice in gown, technically USA did not reach the Top 10, for the 2nd year in row.
Would you wear a gown like this for a formal function?

Even these non-semifinalists had better fashion sense (though some may not have stunning physical attributes, they have good taste- classy)

The last Miss USA I guess who had a fab gown was Kandace Kreuger back in 2001 in her Finals gown, which she coincidentally wore in Miss Texas. They say, "blonds are boring" but certainly not her.

The "bling bling" on her neck is too distracting pa. Though it was her lucky charm in Bb, it surely didn't work in Panama.

di pa rin talaga nawawala ang touch ng venezuela. mariangel did so much justice to a very simple gown. she might be the least-prepared venezuelan rep, but look at what she has achieved.
SHE SHOULD HAVE WON!!!!!
Mariangel really should've been the one crowned.

Hello everyone!!! Welcome back sa atin! Ngayon ko lang napansin back on-line na pala ang Pex.
I watched Miss U entirely on the webcast. Ayoko nang manood sa napakadaming commercial sa RPN9. Natapos yung buong show mga a little before 11 am.
I'm happy with this year's Miss U! I got 12 out of my 15 predictions. I did not get Brazil, Trinidad & Tobago and Greece. I never noticed T&T. I didn't really like Greece's face (which to some is her best asset), and I got sick and tired of the hype over Brazil.
What I liked best about my list is Miss Angola making the cut! I think I was as happy as she was when she was called. I placed her in my 15th slot but I was really hoping she would make it. Thank god, she did!
The ones I placed in my list but didn't get called were Israel, Italy & Turkey. Israel is my biggest disappointment. She looked very pretty and sophisticated. Loved her gown!
Namibia had the most shocked reaction. It's as if hindi niya talaga naisip na there's a possibility she would make it. Ako I believed her from the start kahit yung ibang pics niya nung pageant activities were not impressive.
Angola and Peru had the 'happiest' reactions. And to think na Angola hugged Peru when she was called.
I'm disappointed with the top 10. Sana Peru and Panama would have made it farther. I know kung nag top 10 ang Panama, baka mag-expect ang audience and then kung hindi siya mag proceed from ten, baka magalit. Sayang si Peru. My faves in the Gown competition were Peru, Panama, Japan & South Africa (hehe, the slip). Serbia & Montenegro was obviously trying not to trip in her very busy gown.
The swimsuit competition was okay. Pero sana they used a different color for the swimsuit. Kasi yun na yung ginamit nila for prelims. Canada almost slipped. And nung una, I wasn't shocked when Daisy said 'South Africa'. Pero hindi siya gumagalaw. Then siguro after ilang seconds tsaka lang. Then nung papunta na sa gitna, dun ko lang napansin na si Venezuela pala yon. Maliit lang kasi screen sa computer. Talagang inulit pa ni Daisy then she corrected herself. Pero sequence based, sina Vene and South Africa and mali. Kasi una naman tinawag si South Africa sa top 10. Di pa kaya bihis si Cindy? Or mali lang ang nag arrange sa kanila? My friend, who was watching sa ch. 9 asked me kung baka pwedeng nagkapalit ng score affecting the top 5. Buti na lang, both placed.
I never really liked Japan that much so as to put her in top 5, top 10 lang. So with the exception of her, I loved the top 5. Looks wise, I wanted South Africa or Serbia & Montenegro to win. But let's face it, Amelia had the approval of the crowd.
Sana talaga ang last 2 nalang is Serbia and SA. Serbia's innocent answers got her. SA's over confident answers got her. Pero sa totoo lang, there's nothing wrong with the way SA answered. She had an accent.
When it was down to Vene and DR, I was really hoping Vene would be 1st RU. Ayoko na Vene won both times that the pageant was in Panama. Although mas natural looking si Mariangel. Ayoko lang talaga yung fact na the news about Vene not participating preceeded her. Ayoko kasing mabasa sa papers the next day, 'The Quenn who almost Wasn't'. Pero other than that, Mariangel would have been a good qinner also.
:: About Amelia ::
Right after Amelia was declared the winner, American Beauty MB was bombarded with hate messages for Amelia. i could understand this because of the things written about her.
Ako, when I think about it, sa umpisa pa lang, nung na crown siya, I liked her na. Pero dati, ayoko yung makapal na make-up niya. But when she toned down her make-up in the official headshot, i loved her.
When she won the National Costume competition, there was a feeling na baka she won't make it all the way. Pero she did.
Then lumabas yung mga stories tungkol sa kanyang attitude. Which come to think of it, galing sa GB. And to think na GB did not place DR high on their list. And dun sa post-pageant comments nila sinabi nila na plastered queen and dating ni Amelia pero sa huli sinabi na she will make it if she changed her attitude.
I think ang naging source nang pagkagalit ng ibang tao for Amelia winning is the rumours (or truths) na sinabi ng GB. Siguro they saw her coming and would mask Brazil's popularity kaya they created the news. Or baka totoo talagang *****y si DR. We'll never know for sure, pero not many delegates were happy that she won, right?
I'm happy for Amelia because she won. She's undeniably pretty and she's tall. She is a beauty. Sana nga lang if ever the attitude problems were true, that she would change. Every queen has a flaw naman eh.
I'm downloading the songs (or tracks) from Bond. I loved it. Minus the mistakes, I loved this pageant.

I posted my comments first before reading the posts. Gusto niyo pala talaga si Mariangel over Amelia. Howell...we have opinions. Pero ang masasabi ko lang is mas maganda siya nung finals. Super natural looking and confident. Di siya pretty sa official pics niya (headshot, swimsuit, and costume) kasi siguro pagod pa siya nun when she was photographed.
Pero sa mga tandmes na 1st RU and winer, silang dalawa lang talaga ang alam mo may friction. Para talagang nagpa-plastikan lang sila. With the kiss, na Marinagel did not really accept. At parang kahit holding hands sila, malayo ang space in between.

Another example of Latina Pageant Pattiness, really wondered how come she got in the Top 15. Ok she's pretty but these Latinas tend to go way overboard. Tackiness for 2003, only a "Viva Hot Babe" would wear such a dress :yuck:
http://www.fotoenlinea.com/albumes/HIjmiEb2f39DGec/album0003/superhires/foto001.jpg
If she wore something similar to this, it would have been much better. These Latinas never learn... her predecessor had a better fashion sense.
