One of the few times I've seen a Miss Philippines hang out with the other Asian beauties! But we still have a few more weeks to go and probably Kate would mingle with other groups!

I'm actually impressed with Kate this early! She's the classiest in this picture! Well, we still haven't seen India and China! For sure, Kate's gonna have tough competition with the two!

20-year old Diana Lucia Mantilla Prada from Santander was crowned Señorita Colombia 2002 after a three-hour pageant held in Cartagena.

Miss Bangladesh contest 2003 in New York on January 20

The Miss Bangladesh competition 2003 will be held in New York on January 20. This is the first time Bangladeshi contestants across the globe will be participating in a beauty contest in the United States of America (USA).

This was announced at a press conference at a city hotel yesterday by GM Khan Lipton, chief executive director of Miss Bangladesh USA and Entertainment Inc. Entertainment Inc. is the organiser of the event.

"The competition is to become an annual event and the winners will eventually participate in the prestigious Miss Universe and Miss World pageants," said Lipton.

He said the aim of the competition is to provide young Bangladeshi women with an opportunity to display their talents, to heighten their self-esteem and to enhance the image of the Bangladeshi community.

He added that the contest would provide a rewarding experience for all the participants.

The competitors have to be smart, beautiful, talented and within the age group of 18 to 25 years with a height of at least 5'4'', Lipton added.

Eminent and respected members of the Bangladeshi, American and international communities will judge the competitors, he said.

He informed that organisation is to bear the expenses of the participants passing the primary selection.

The winner, Miss Bangladesh, will receive prize money of US$ 3000, the first runner up US$1500 and second runner up US$ 500.

Various artists including Abdur Nur Tusher, Nobel, Suvro Dev, Srabonti, Mehrin, Rabi Chowdhury were present at the press conference.

The interested Bangladeshi nationals all over the world have been requested to send in their applications with academic qualifications and three copies of recent colored photograph including profile and front view. Our correspondent in London, Chilean journalist Ricardo Guiraldes, received massive criticism from fans and supporters of candidates he did not indulge with his comments.

Offensive messages attacking Mr. Guiraldes and Global Beauties were found in several message board destined to beauty pageant discussion.

We interviewed Mr. Guiraldes over the phone, and that's what he has to say.

GB: You have been bombarded by Filipino fans, as well was fans from a couple of countries more, who do not accept your comments regarding their delegates. Would you like us to edit or remove such comments?
Ricardo: Not at all! I am not taking back anything I said. I was very honest and concise when exposing my personal views of the delegates I met. Most fans are mature enough to understand that different people might have different opinions. Like them or not, those are my opinions. People who cannot take any criticism are a minority who will hopefully grow up someday.

GB: Do you feel that with those comments you "singled out" the Filipino delegate from others in Asia?
RG: Never. She is a pretty woman, elegant, and possibly has many other qualities. I just think that the 80's look and attitude won't do much for a Miss World contestant nowadays, and Filipino beauty queens insist on that. Furthermore, I do believe that China, Hong Kong and Vietnam top the Far East group this year, followed by Malaysia. Korea, Japan, Thailand, Philippines and Singapore are all well represented, but will face some tough competition in the region from the ones I indicated first, not to mention many others from different regions of the world! If Miss Philippines becomes a finalist or even win the pageant, good for her. I just don't think it is likely to happen, again.

GB: Yesterday you left we all curious about a Caribbean island beauty who impressed you a great deal. Who was she?
RG: That's right! It was Miss Antigua & Barbuda. Very charming with a gorgeous smile. I also liked Jamaica, although she takes me back to the 60s with her outdated hair style.

GB: Any other thoughts after reviewing the pictures you took?
RG: Yes. Miss Greece is tremendously sexy and gorgeous, a very interesting woman. Norway is also "top of the line", beautiful! That is it. Overall it is not a strong year.

Lara_D: So that's the score behind the fiasco invloving the "ill-fated" Miss Universe China 2002 pageant last March... :ahh: I also read somewhere that it was a private organization and firm that handled everything-- Zhuo's preparation, US visa application, plane tickets, gowns--- as in everything that had to do with her participation in Miss Universe 2002. Luckily for Zhuo and for China, she's now the 1st runner-up! :up:

I've been watching too much TV lately. Earlier this evening, I landed on the Viva Channel and watched this movie (I wasn't able to get the title) starring Alice Dixson, Dina Bonnevie, Vina Morales, Cesar Montano and Rustom Padilla. It was obviously a flick of the early 90's, as suggested by their fashion sense and hairdos...

I could not stop raving about what an exceptional and natural beauty Jessie Alice Salones Dixson-Miranda truly is... :handsdown: As we all know, Alice was crowned Bb. Pilipinas International 1986... Back during the 80's, it was the Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant that owned the Miss World franchise-- which automatically means that the Bb. Pilipinas International title is the 2nd highest position after the coveted Bb. Pilipinas Universe title...

Just imagine if Alice was sent to Panama that year for Miss Universe 1986... She could have easily charmed her way to the Top 10...

Minister of Tourism, Hon. McKeeva Bush, who left for Puerto Rico last Tuesday to attend the 50th Miss Universe competion, is hoping that he will be able to convince the Pageant's owners to have the contest hosted in the Cayman Islands in the year 2004.

"We must keep the Cayman Islands on the world stage", said Mr. Bush when contacted prior to his departure, "and we will be in a good position to do so, provided that we can continue to develop and improve as a world-class destination. Hosting the Miss Universe contest will give us the kind of international exposure we may never be able to underwrite ourselves."

Whether or not Cayman can handle an annual event of this magnitude will depend on other plans in the works for the Mexican based developer to construct a 700 room five star hotel and convention facility on the beach in Frank Sound.

The property for this proposed evolution was reportedly purchased about five years ago with a 1000-foot frontage with an average depth of over 400 feet from the main road to the sea, in the area of Betty Bay Point.

If this development proceeds it will be in keeping with the trend of resort development moving away from Seven Mile Beach, which is just about hypertrophic.

The Morritt's Tortuga in East End - just a few miles from the proposed 700-room resort - has expanded to almost 200 units and plans are in place to bring the resort up to 300 units, in another year, with the acquisition of more beach frontage. The recently completed Grand Morritt section will have its own official opening this Saturday.

Since taking office as Minister of Education, the Hon. Roy Bodden has committed to secure land for the development of a Government High School facility to serve the Eastern Districts.

These plans are keeping with the wishes of the Governor, Mr. Peter Smith who expressed in an interview with Cayman Net News a few weeks ago, that he would like to see commercial activity spread to the outer districts instead of being focused strictly along the Seven Mile Beach Corridor and the capital of George Town.

Given the present doldrums the construction industry is now going through, the proposed plans for this mega-hotel and convention centre is raising hopes for a resuscitation of the country's now lagging economy.

The Bahamas can expect an "astronomical" boost to tourism when it hosts the 2004 Miss Universe Pageant.

The Miss Bahamas Universe Committee, yesterday announced that The Bahamas had submitted the winning bid to host the international pageant.

It is estimated that hosting the pageant, which is seen by about 1 billion people, will cost The Bahamas about $1.8 million.

"The benefits of just hosting the pageant here far outweigh the cost," said Ms. Gaynelle Rolle, national director of the Miss Bahamas universe Pageant. The international pageant will bring an estimated 8,000 visitors to the islands for four weeks. This number does not include contestants, personnel or the members of the international press.

Miss Bahamas Universe Committee members outlined the benefits of hosting the pageant here, saying it will greatly benefit the Bahamian economy.

Ian Cargill, pageant chairman for legal affairs, said all the islands can be advertised before and during the pageant.

Ms. Rolle said the pageant committee is looking for island directors to tell them their individual island's best features.

There's nothing wrong for the Caribbean to host Miss Universe again. The good thing about the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas is that they're not the pageant crazy countries. For a non-pageant fanatic nation who are willing to spend millions to host a pageant, that's really a big feat. And the Atlantis Hotel in the Bahamas is something to die for!!! Since Sun International are the owners of the resort, it's beyond words.

Two different people hold the MU and MW franchise for Algeria and they're mortal enemies. The reason why the MW holder wanted to send a girl because he found out someone will send a rep for Miss Universe. The reason why there was a news blackout for the MU franchise, I guess it's legal reasons. Parang Miss China Universe- supressed.

Miss Taiwan, Chang Lei-an, is in the Miss Universe pageant. But it turns out she is really Miss Chinese Taipei. The ChiComs got all in a huff like they do and demanded that Miss Taiwan not compete under that name (Miss Taiwan, ROC) but use the name Miss Chinese Taipei. The pageant acquiesced.

The pageant web site (www.missuniverse.com) has made the changes. In their "delegates" section (they call the gals "delegates" not contestants) they dutifully have an entry for the country "Chinese Taipei".

What's funny is that there is no Miss China. Why are the ChiComs complaining when there isn't even a "delegate" from China? I'm not sure why there is no Miss China in the pageant, but there's not. There is a Miss Hong Kong. The ChiComs didn't insist she be called Miss Chinese Hong Kong.

But if you take a look at the pageant photo pages you'll see one of the pre-pageant publicity photos with here wearing the Miss Taiwan banner. It shows just how quickly they acquiesced to the communist demands. The web site didn't have a chance ot pull this photo with the original Miss Taiwan banner. They also overlooked the caption which called her "Miss Taiwan 2000".

This is a perfect example of the CCP insecurity. If Hong Kong doesn't need to be called Chinese Hong Kong, why Taiwan? It's because the CCP know that people know Taiwan is not part of their China. THE RIFT between the two local rival pageants, the Miss Universe Botswana, and the Miss Botswana, widened last week Thursday when the outgoing Miss Botswana queen was not featured anywhere in the Miss Universe's home coming celebrations.

The Miss Botswana queen was relegated to a second class status and not even Mpule's princesses for the Miss Universe Botswana were on hand to welcome Mpule home.

Both the princesses Alimah Isaacs and Mataila Sikwane were contestants at this year's Miss Botswana which was won by Alimah on Saturday.

At a press conference Mpule added fuel to the fire by saying that she felt the Miss Universe pageant was "better".

She said that at the Miss Universe pageant the contestants are judged on four different occasions for various qualities while at the Miss World contest - in which Mpule also competed as Miss Botswana - contestants are only judged once.

She said she would not go to the Miss Botswana show because of a prior engagement on the night.

This fabulous evening gown was made by designer Halston. It is a beautiful soft gray color in a high quality jersey blend. It has a cowl neckline that has a great drape on the bodice and ties at the neck. The ties are 2 inches wide and are 16 inches long on each side. The bust is full and flowing and can probably fit to a size 34 inches. The waist stretches to 30 inches, and it is 36 inches at the hips. The skirt of the dress is 41 inches long, with 3 inches extra under the hem. US$1,725.

I was in Glorietta this afternoon. I was at Orange Julius, buying me a mango shake when I accidentally looked down at the Activity Center. Nope, it wasn't the Adidas Sale and Basketball Showdown that caught my attention... The Miss Asia Pacific 2002 delegates were there for some shopping and pasyal... I hurriedly sped up for the nearest escalator. Yes, I joined the crowd that stared at the delegates. :bonkself: "Stared" is funny, but it is the right word to use.

I saw Miss India Tina Chatwal up close and boy, those thunder thighs immediately caught my undivided attention! In fairness to her, she had a pretty face. The other delegates whom I laid eyes on were Misses Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica and Thailand... I believe they're the front-runners in this year's pageant. Miss Panama had a striking resemblance to Justine. Miss Mexico has the body to die for! She could compete next year in Nuestra Belleza Mexico 2003! :up: Miss Bolivia was a real mess... Miss China seemed to be in a state of duress...

I followed them everywhere-- the Card Station booth, Ensembles, Bayo, Silver Works until I finally had to leave around 5:10 PM. This is one moment in time when I really hope I brought my Minolta with me. :D :D :D

She will compete in Miss USA 2003 set for March in Gary, Indiana.

She was 2nd runner-up during last year's state pageant.

**Celine Roschek was crowned Miss Austria 2002 last April. She was originally set to compete in Miss World 2002 in Nigeria. However, she joined the boycott condemning Amina Lawal's case. She has strongly expressed her desire to see action in Panama come May. Her return marks Austria's comeback in Miss Universe after a 3-year absence.

kate manalo has defintely improved way back the bb pilipinas pageant. i think that she should work on her smile. she looks great if she smiles naturally. she should avoid "pouting her lips" when smiling.

Tina Fandino was a semi-finalist during Bb. Pilipinas 2001. She was Uno's ex. She tried in vain to stop the pageant when her name was excluded from the official pageant roster. After a visit to the QC Regional Trial Court, her name was restored and she became Candidate #26-- ending what could have been a disastrous nightmare for BPCI.

Ako, I voted na rin for Kate Manalo. Ewan ko lang ha, kung hindi pa natin ma-top yang text voting na yan. May daya na talaga yan!!! Pero kahit hindi mag-top 10 si Kate, basta ilabas lang nila ang results ng U Decide and then number 1 tayo don, ok na for me. at least nalaman ng mundo na we support kate at tayo ang leading text senders in the world.

pero sana mag top 10 pa rin si kate. kapag hindi nirelease yung top 10 sa text vote, sobra na ang kadayaan dyan ha.

di ko pa rin talaga ma complete ang top 10 ko sa miss world. ang kaunti kasi ng pictures. pero i'm sure na of norway, italy, england and colombia. ewan ko pa sa rest.
