I'm planning on a trip to Bangkok and Phuket in October. I need your suggestions for good hotels in Bangkok and Phuket. Good meaning nice location, service and overall value. Same goes for Phuket or even Ko Phi Phi. Please share your experience.
Any good or exceptional restaurants in both places would also be helpful.
I tried to search other posts but only a few mentioned where they stayed. Also since I'm coming from the US, travel agencies here are not that familiar with Bangkok, and Thai travel agencies want to book you into cheaper hotels.
Thanks for your input....

We went to Phuket a few months ago and this site helped us immensely ..> http://www.thaiwave.com/phuketguide/phuket_hotels/forum.htm
We stayed at Royal Palm in Patong which is just across the beach and I highly recommend it. Saw some really nice hotels as well in southern Patong but I forgot the names. I'll try to look for this later.
Some good restos: Sabai Sabai and Baan rim pa (daw) according to tourists. But if you're adventurous, the street food and the food centre at northern Patong, is probably just as good kasi dun kumakain yung locals. Sabai Sabai and the resto across it is cheap though.
We pretty much just stayed in Patong so I can't tell you about the rest of the island. We did go to Phi Phi island tour via ferry which we regretted kasi ang lakas ng alon. I think it's better if you go there via speedboat and stay a night or two in the island to appreciate it. If you do the day tour, I promise you won't be impressed.
They say the other beaches in Phuket are much nicer and more quiet. Patong's advantage is that it's so alive - dami kasi sigurong tao.

Was in Phuket this time last year for a seminar and stayed there for about 12-14 days. We stayed at Sheraton
Grande Laguna Phuket ( not sure about the order of the names here) basta yung Sheraton sa Phuket.
It was a really nice place coz you could walk to the beach or swim in their pools. Once I even saw a baby elephant being walked in the corridors of the rooms !!!!!!!! I think it cost about US$100 a night - expensive but worth it.
It was a huge double room with a balcony whose view overlooked the whole resort. It was about 30-45 minutes away from Patong. And you could take a ferry ride to a little place across the resort which sold really nice but kinda expensive stuff. I was also in Bangkok last March and I stayed in Sheraton Sukhumvit! Really nice room and a huge bathroom that I just wanted to stay in all day! Come to think of it, the Sheraton hotels in Thailand are all first class.
Have a great time! Shop to death! It's really cheap there! Pwede magpabili??????? Joke lang!

Thanks Starsky for the website, very helpful indeed. Most likely we'll only be in Phuket for a couple of days, so I have to plan my time wisely.
Too bad my vacation is kinda limited, kung hindi I'd stay in phuket for a week so I can explore better.
Anyone taken the Elephant trek, sounds interesting....

haven't been to phuket yet pero in bangkok, try the tallest hotel there, Baiyoke Towers. it's not as luxurious as the Sheraton Sukhumvit but if shopping's all you'll be doing (which is what my mom specializes in :teehee: ), Baiyoke Towers is right smack in 'paradise'. :glee:

If you're going to Bangkok and will be flying via Northwest, I suggest you stay at Fortune Hotel. It's Northwest's partner hotel--you'll surely get a cheaper package. It is located 20 minutes away from the airport, and 3 minutes away from the expressway making all parts of the city accessible... also, it is directly opposite to the subway. Shopping is very convenient because it is annexed to Fortune Town (a major shopping and business plaza with over 500 shops, restaurant, and IT mall). The Phloenchit/Pathumwan area where you'll find some of the popular malls in BKK (Siam Square/Center/Discovery, Narayana Phand, and MBK) is also near Fortune... will only take you 8-10 minutes via taxi if you take the expressway.
As to the "exceptional" restaurants, I don't think I could give a good suggestion because the ones I visited were mostly american restaurants (Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood, McDo, Pizza Hut, KFC, Starbucks, etc.). I'm very sure you've been to their franchise there in the US. Didn't try much of the Thai stuff because I don't enjoy eating spicy food. There was this restaurant though that we went to which was set in an old Thai house crammed with Thai crafts and photos... it's Bahn Khun Mer, opposite the Novotel Hotel. You might wanna check it out.
Enjoy your trip! :)

We weren't able to try it but according to friends, the elephant trek is indeed interesting. Although some might find it tedious/boring/tiring since you'll be riding for more than hour.
There are a lot of adventure tours being offered in Phuket but I hear the best ones are the white-water-rafting+elephant-trek and canoeing in James Bond (or is it Phanga Bay?).
