View Full Version : A family's educational record:

The father studied at UP College of Law. The mother, a typical rich girl, studied in exclusive parochial schools in the Philippines before going to the US to study in a Catholic College. The kids? Varied. But the most noteworth is the bunso, who studied at the Ateneo.
The father worked as a lawyer, reporter and was elected into municipal gov't offices before he became a senator (the latter post largely because of his rich wife's family connections). He was imprisoned, humiliated, defamed and eventually murdered. The mother became president, largely because of her husband. The son became a congressman largely because of his parents. The bunso became an entertainer largely because of her entire family. She's also the controversial member at the moment.
Do you see the usual pattern here?

Just a slight correction regarding the father: He took one semester of the study of law in San Beda, quit, and never became a lawyer.
Interesting thread, ach_soo. What pattern are we talking about here?

I never thought he studied in San Beda but I know his undergrad was done at the Ateneo. He was an Ateneo - UP educated and a brod of the guy who was accused to have him killed.
Why would he go to San Beda when he has made it already in UP?

maybe he got kicked out of UP-Law. come to think of it, i have never seen any carillon mention of ninoy as an alumni. it's his frat, upsilon sigma phi that mentions him often.
however, UP 'tibaks' like to think that cory was just as gifted or even better than ninoy. she did graduate with honors, math pa man din.
but with regard to the ninoy-coymaks face-off, there's no question. makoy was far more gifted in terms of academic, professional and political acheivements. the difference people like to notice: ninoy was tall and rather fair, coymaks was a typical ilocano --short and dark. ninoy can raise hell with his voice, makoy talks slowly and deliberately. ninoy is a dandy when in business attire, coymaks looks like the proverbial peasant in his barong.

But the wife was never from UP, right? :-)

This is interesting.
Here is a website containing the late Senator's bio. (http://www.angelfire.com/il/saintjareth/ninoy.html) It says he finished grade school at the Ateneo, high school at San Beda, "enrolls" in a liberal arts course at the Ateneo, and "enrolls" at the UP college of law.
I just checked the Ateneo alumni directory and he is not listed as one of the graduates of GS '42. If he enrolled in a liberal arts course, it must have been the Associate in Arts program, which was a common pre-law course at the time. He is not listed as one of the graduates of AA '49. In fact the only Benigno Aquino listed in the directory is the congressman/son.
Looks like we need more verification.

Thank you for that correction, KuyaDanny. :) I did remember a "San Beda" somewhere in his scholastic records and that he never finished law.
