just wondering... do cable companies *pay* royalties for movies they show?

Same way they pay for TV programming. They pay a licensing fee to show the movies.

Pirated books... now that's something new. People generally do not like to read. They'd rather rot their brains infront of the boob tube watching badly recorded VCDs of badly made Hollywood and Pinoy flicks.

I've watched sa TV dati that in China, there are fake Harry Potter books everywhere in the streets. Baka yun ang ibig nyang sabihin

Baka pirated e-books. Kasi may napuntahan akong channel sa mIRC that serves tons of books in .txt, .lit, .pdf, etc. formats. Even new ones meron na kaagad sila. You have to deal with wrong spelling though (konti lang naman) kasi sa pagka-scan siguro.

Pero I still wouldn't prefer reading from my pocket pc (bulky kasi eh). Besides paperback books cost less than P500 lang.... ;)

Maybe they don't have a local software industry or their code aint worth pirating.
