m_12: all I know about Scottish universities is that, after finishing your degree there, they give you a chance to work for 2 years or more (usually they'd assign you to companies, etc). That is, if you're an international student.

thanks eccentriQ. it seems like you're well-informed (i've actually read about what you said in the internet). what can you say about univ of strathclyde or glasgow? do you think it's easy to find a job after taking higher studies (MBA/MIM) from these universities? thanks again

m_12: the universities of glasgow and strathclyde are two of the most well-known universities in scotland, and your chances of getting an employment would be higher then, especially if you have good grades. scotland is in need of a strong labor force :)

univ of glasgow was also one of my choices. but i realized it's not in london, my primary choice to receive my second undergrad degree, law.

i am also excited to study abroad. i am planning to file my application this september or early october. i want to be an early bird.

i emailed london school of economics, my dream school, to ask about my qualifications. they said that a year spent in a university is enough. but the person strongly suggested that i work for a law firm. this scares me not because i dont want to work there but because none of the firms i've emailed (and thus sent my coverletter and CV to) have replied. this might endager my chances of getting in.

how's switzerland by the way? and did you know their language when you went there? or is english the medium of intstruction? did you take IELTS? how was the test?

^^about sweden..one of the general requirements that the swedish universitiesn require proficiency in their language..you've to take TISUS in order for you to prove to them that you really are proficient in their lang...yan kasi ang medium of instruction dun. although karamihan na sa post grad studies, english na ang medium. still, you've to take the test..although there are universities there that offer full-time language courses (2 sems im not just sure how much it'd cost you)..ang kagandahan kasi sa scandinavian countries (germany, sweden, finland, iceland, denmark) libre ang tuition kahit sa int'l students. ;)

m_12 and greenDestiny: well, good luck in looking for opportunities to study abroad. all it takes is research ;)

Switzerland is like being in a live postcard, really! Although Geneva is quite crowded now, it is still beautiful and very historic; the countryside is well-maintained, and really, Switzerland's one of the best places to live in, I think.

This fall, I'm going to a university that has English as its medium of instruction. I would have wanted to go to a local university, but my level of French is still not that good to cope with college-level work.

I didn't take the IELTS; I took the TOEFL. It's very basic, especially for Filipinos who were educated in private schools and top universities.

talaga..makakahanap ba ko ng scholarship dun?kasi kung all i have to spend for is my cost of living, excluding the tuition, kakayanin.

germany and the scandinavian countries (finland, norway, sweden) don't offer scholarships, because the tuition itself is free. but to be able to attend their institution you must be able to show that you have proficiency in their language (some don't require this as they will let you undergo a one-year intensive language course). are you applying for postgraduate studies? if so, then the language barrier may not be at all that difficult; most institutions there offer programs in the English language.
also, before they can issue you a residence permit (their version of the student visa), you must be able to show that you have at least the following amount of money available: 6300 SKR (45,000 PHP) per month for sweden; 80,000 NOK (67,200 PHP) per month for norway; 500 euro (33,300 PHP) per month for finland; 660 euro (44,000 PHP) per month for germany. this is their estimated amount of living expenses. so for example, if you get accepted at a swedish university, and your duration of studies is 10 months, then you have to show the swedish embassy that you have 63,000 SKR (450,000 PHP) before they can issue you the residence permit.

bonne chance!

good luck to you! by the way, did you fix everything by yourself? or did you seek for an external party to fix, say the forms, application for visa etc, for you?

i'm thinking of acquiring the services of a company called international education specialists. again they charge $750, fixed, for the following services:

$750 includes $150 university matching. They will give 4-5 universities that suits your choice and qualifications. You have to submit your transcript or proof of grades, essay (2 pages) "why you want to study abroad" and resume. Each univesity will be discussed including the tuition fee, living expenses, requirements etc so you'll have an idea which to choose. They will give you at least a week to decide which University you want to attend then they will start processing your documents. Now you have to pay the remaining $600. They will provide all the forms needed in the school of your choice; they can even assist you in filling it out. They will arrange for your campus accomodation, meal options etc. They will require you to submit some documents needed then they will do the rest. They will courier everything to the school, do all the callings and e-mailings to follow up.They will update you with the status of your application from time to time. After receiving your acceptance letter from the school, they will now arrange for your student visa. They will set all the appointment with the embassy, gather all your documents and they will submit it to them. If the embassy requires your personal appearance they will orient you before going there. After getting your visa, they will arrange your arrival to the school (who will fetch you etc). Then, they will give you a pre-departure orientation before leaving so you know what to expect and what to bring.

I'm thinking whether this is all worth it. Quite costly. Im still trying to ask if the cost could be cut down, while also cutting down on the services they are going to provide- those which I THINK i could work on my own.

Good day people! Is this thread still active? Anyway, im just wondering if the thread starter also knows something about the schools in Australia. It seems that most of the replies here are all about universities in the US.

Im actually planning to study Culinary or Commercial Cookery in Australia preferably in Sydney or in Melbourne. Certificate or a Diploma program will do as long as its 2 years in duration.

Anyone can help me? any recommendations? Where do you prefer in Sydney or in Melbourne?

Thank you so much if someone can help me.

I'm planning to take my Master's Degree in Australia. I'm currently taking HRIM (Major track in Culinary Arts) at CSB. Okay ba culinary schools in Aussie?

Hey! whatzup? tagal na yung post kong yun... im already done with my first year here in Sydney, Australia.

I took up Certificate III of Commercial Cookery for 1 yr (Culinary arts) at TAFE NSW - Sydney Institute. They are really really good. I had chefs from France, Switzerland, Scotland, and of course Australia. If you have the money naman... go to Le Cordon Bleu. Of course world-known yun though, they focus more on the European or should i say French cuisines.

Right now im studying Advance Diploma for Hospitality Management for my second year at William Blue Internation Hotel Management School (WB). Its one of the top three Hospitality Management School in Sydney. So that you you'll have an idea what are the other schools that are best in Hospitality Management, the two are Intercontinental Hotel School and International College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (ICTHM).

Waxy i also graduated in Benilde but i took Computer Applications. Im sure you will get good credits from Benilde because i got credits on my Management subjects that is why i am fast tracking my course. I hope you can apply for Masterals degree because as what i know you should have an experience first. Curriculum here is different from the Philippines. Anyway lots of luck and update me if you are planning to go here already alright?

See you then!

So NUS is the preferred school. Have you heard James Cook Uni? Saw it sa newspaper and even called up the office... sana they could also offer scholarships there.Wala naman rin akong pera to fund this, so is my parents.

I'd like sana to look for Human Resource 1-2yr programs.. hope you could help me which school has this major. :)

Your chances of landing an overseas scholarship could be higher with more academically / theoretically-oriented programs like economics or financial mathematics. Search for scholarships offered to ASEAN and APEC – member countries. Or troll the universities in the US for graduate assistant offerings. It’s harder to find scholarships in management-oriented fields.

If you know how to speak a little French (or willing to learn how to) then I suggest you try the MSc in Mgt program at HEC (Paris) which is a highly ranked program. I think they offer courses in English though some are only in French. Once admitted and if you are a good candidate, they would apply you for the Eiffel scholarship (you need to inform them that you want to be considered for Eiffel upon submitting your application at HEC). Coming from the Philippines, your chance of getting the Eiffel scholarship is very high (only 2 Filipinos were given scholarships this year and since the French government wants to push for diversity, I believe they would value applications from Pinoys highly).

I'm currently studying in France under the Eiffel scholarship so send me a private message if interested. My program is I think the only pure English program (I'm studying economics but my program also offers a finance masters though I warn you that it's very mathematical since my school is more of a PhD econ school)

I've been thinking about getting a medical education in the US, Canada or Australia. I checked out the freshman class profiles in most of the good med schools in the States, and their average GPAs were extremely high (3.6 and higher in 4.0 scale). I know it's relatively easier to get high grades in the US. How in the world am I going to compete with that? I'm not at all a bad student, but being in an honors course in a good university keeps me from getting really high grades (though my grades don't show it, I'm performing average-to-above-average in reputedly one of the best programs in school). I saw a US Colleges admissions manual, and although my SAT score puts me in Selectivity Rank 1 (the bracket of students commonly accepted by the most selective schools), my grades only put me in Selectivity Rank 3! Do I have any chance at all of getting into a good med school? What can I do to improve my chances?

Thanks, I appreciate the help. :)

-------------------------------

I don't think they will look at your SAT score - SAT is used to apply to premed colleges. They will, however, look at your MCAT score (duh, of course  ). The general rule of thumb is that a combined score of 30 gets your application over the threshold and into the files under active consideration at most schools.

A good application includes:

1. Academic performance - GPA + MCAT
2. Community service
3. Research experience

If you are weak GPA-wise, just try to do great on the MCAT and maybe do some internship.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Parsons School of Design, which is also in NYC (that's where they film Project Runway). I know it's more expensive than FIT - but I'm not sure which school is better when it comes to merchandising.

Presumably, you're interested in taking a science major. If you're applying to overseas universities for your undergrad, it helps to have done some independent scientific research work and preferably either enter it in a contest or get it published as a novelty piece somehow. Check out the various prep schools in the US, UK or Singapore (ex.Raffles) and see what their students are doing to bolster their science credentials.

Other than that, doing something service-related would help but only as far as making yourself a more interesting package. You can volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, GK, typhoon relief activities or medical missions, then discuss this in your application essays.
