Thanks for the information, I just have a question about the 45 K thing, ano yun starting monthly? The specific job description given was "Technical Support Representative ". It is a position that requires knowledge about PC hardware troubleshooting, the possibility of working on a graveyard shift schedule, and fluency in the English language. I am getting almost the same starting with the company I am with right now and I have to relocate pa kasi I am based here sa clark.

Hello Peeps,
I'd like to thank the people who sent their resumes. We'll be calling you for a brief telephone interview in your landline or mobile phone. I hope you understand if I don’t get to reply to all your mails. I would like to assure you though that all your resumes will be thoroughly processed. J You may want to try to catch me by calling my office or mobile and I would be glad to help you.
Una Dagmar – Send me your resume, we’ll process you, and if you land a job in Manila, then you may be very capable to relocate.
Spadia – We definitely need multi – lingual CSR’s. Did you know that multi-lingual CSR’s get an additional premium to their salary depending on the lanuage they specialize? And did you know that some companies may pay as high as 50K a month for anyone who can speak the business Nihonggo language and get hired as a CSR?
So just keep those questions and resumes coming. I’d always be glad to help.
Xander_Cage
Sep 10, 2002, 06:37 AM
they pay nihonggo csrs 50 k?!?!?!? I didn’t know that. You are talking about the business nihonggo language right, and not just some street nihonggo that you can hear from the locals?
I better enroll myself in a language school then… thanks for the info bro.
Paolo_Aquino
Sep 10, 2002, 08:23 AM
Xander – the nihonggo I am talking about is the language spoken by businessmen in Japan. It’s very different from the language being used even in the streets of Tokyo. It requires a study of custom, class, and tradition. I believe, language schools such as Berlitz, and Languages International teach this way of speech.
Everyone – We have recent openings for medical councilors. Medical councilors are CSR’s, hired by medical companies, to answer telephone questions about various medical products. We prefer graduates of nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, or any related courses. Just mail me your resume if you are interested. Thanks.

Hi there , since you are from Angeles City , where call center are you presently working now ?
Paolo_Aquino
Sep 12, 2002, 06:26 AM
Makenzi -
You would realy undergo a series of interviews for Parlance. They are quite strict with the quality of their CSR's. They are more strict when it comes to medical testing. The reason for this is that they offer an extensive medical insurance once you get in.
noel_icky--
Thanks for your resume. Just wait for a call from any of our consultants.

like how many interviews to be exact?:D

Interviews range from around 3-6 times, depending on the schedule when the next batch of CSR's are needed, and the availability of HR personel.

Dude, are you the guys who provide an international training for call centeres? Who do we contact for this training? Who certifies people? In which call centers is this training being used? I hope you can enlighten me on this. Thanks.
Paolo_Aquino
Sep 13, 2002, 07:00 AM
We do provide the first internationaly accredited training course for contact centres. It consists of theories and skill training needed to land jobs in contact centres. We offer them either in public (for anyone who wants to enrol), or corporate (exclusive and tailorfitted for contact centres). We also offer supervisor, and shift manager training.
I am one of two Filipinos certified for this training course. You may call me on my numbers for any details. Thanks.

That is true. I first submitted my resume with C-Cube before together with my friend who graduated from DLSU. And guess who amongst us was contacted by C-Cube? My graduate friend. He tried to follow-up my application with them and the HR told them that I am not considered because I'm an undergrad.
I also submitted my resume with Infonxx just four months ago, made it to the final interview only to be cut because they (Infonxx) just set out a new policy discouraging undergrads to apply with them.

Sad to hear that. Just a question... what's a diploma got to do with answering phone calls? I saw an ad once for Technical Support Representatives. The job is to handle PC and internet support calls. Do you need to spend four years in college to do this?

This statement I got to agree. In the States, most call centers (and the like) don't really require a college diploma just for you to be considered as a candidate or even land a job if Lady Luck smiles on you. But we're here in the Philippines, and you know the hiring policy prevalent here though. Even if you're an undergrad but you have rich working experience, you won't be considered just because of your lack of degree.

Yeah, most call center peeps in the US never needed to enter college. And guess how much they earn per hour...
Imagine graduates or nursing, pre-med courses, business, economics, engineering, computer science and so and so working in a call center and saying "City and State please..." 8 hours a day.
Better than being jobless right?

Some contact centres in Manila hire graduates as opposed to contact centres in US because the top contact centres boast of having their CSR's as experts and problem solvers, which has a much higher qualification than telephone operators. You have to meet the people in the business, or try the job yourself in order to appreciate it and be proud of it.
For our friends who would want to work without a degree, contact centres in Manila would often put your communication skills, your witiness, your ability to solve problems first before looking at any credentials you have in your resume. So try your luck at contact centres like C3, Lynksys, Infonxx, dress up properly, impress them with your wit, and your ability to communicate, and you'd get a good chance to land a job :)

Paolo - i'm actually nearing the end of my contract; Oct 29 to be exact, i'm still thinking about leaving C3, promotions are not as prominent as before, even some of the agents before my batch are still CSA's. I keep on submitting LOA's for other projects, but it looks like i'm stuck with PBP forever (i dunno if it's a compliment to me or a degrading thing) anyways... any suggestions??
:(

kourant...
being stuck with the pbp client in c3 has its advantages and disadvantages. You may have the chance to get promoted faster, yet you also might be in a career limbo. (if the product doesn't expand further)
here's what, create a soft copy of your resume... send one to us... and i'll send you a list of email addresses of good contact centres you might want to apply in.
so you get to have two paths to getting a better job, one is with the contact centres you will directly apply in, and the other is with us, when we send your resume...
how's that...
call me for any questions...
good luck...

Hi! S it ok for a recent MBA grad to apply as a call center agent? There aren't too many good job opportunities around for one so just want to ask if an MBA grad would not be considered overqualified to apply for the said position? I've been a Call Center Rep before in a big telecom company. Plus a lot of my fellow MBA grads who are sick of their jobs want to try applying. Just wondering :) Thanks :)
Paolo_Aquino
Oct 3, 2002, 09:52 AM
definitely... i have had participants in call centres who have just finished taking up medicine, and are working on a contractual basis, to earn extra money before going to their specializations. You also shouldn't think that your 2 years of mba shall be going to waste, because supervisory and manegerial positions for newly opened contact centres have not yet been filled up. You may always use your experience and your credits in your mba course to pull yourself up the contact centre corporate ladder.
These statements are true, and are definitely happening as we speak. I became a manager at 23 because of the opportunities that are happening in the industry. You guys can be like that too.
Contact me if I could be of any help. Good luck.

A masters degree will not overqualify you for an entry level position, but work experience will. Example: Employers will think twice of hiring you as a supervisor when your previous job is a manager, and your compensation package is higher. If you have a masters degree with no work experience, companys may still hire you for entry level. Your masteral degree shall help you get promoted much faster. Whatever your corporate climb master plan is... you gotta work it from entry level. :)
You may also want to try downsizing your resume for one or two companies to check if you get favorable results.
Send your resume to me, or call me for any questions. Good luck.

A few questions please:
-May I know what is the compensation package at Ambergris?
-Do you really have to go through those 3 interviews wherein the last one is with Operations Manager?
- Do they really schedule interviews really late in the evening and make you wait for more than 2 hours to get your turn?
- How do you know if you're more likely to be rejected?
- How stringent is their hiring criteria?
Thanks!

hi paolo. can you give me some advice, eglobal reach and contact world informed me that i got accepted. now i don't know what company will I join. contact world already has a training schedule, while the other company still doesn't have.
how good is eglobal reach? I am having doubts with this firm.
Paolo_Aquino
Nov 6, 2002, 10:46 AM
bradz
E-global reach and contact world are two good companies in terms of size and stability. Your choice of work then should depend on your personal preferences. try considering the following:
location - eglobal reach is in alabang while contact world is in ortigas
salary - they pretty much have the same salary. your compensation package shall then depend on the position they hired you for
benefits and accessability - these two things may look trivial, but if you talk of months or years of stay, they mean a LOT.
The bottom line is -- you are not an official employee of a company unless you sign a contract with them. So if one of these companies have offered you a contract already, that just means that they are serious in hiring you. Contact me again fo any questions. Good luck.
Madam_rocha
We do accept undergrads...
We're definitely not an insurance company...
Some contact centeres who operate 24 hours, 7 days a week, and who service clients from different time zones may ask you to attend training at whatever time... 4am, 3am, 6am etc. so if you're serious in this type of job, you better be prepared for this. Contact me if i could be of any help. Good luck too... :)

contact world scheduled me for training tomorrow. i have to sign the contract now. tsk!!!
i called e global reach earlier. i asked them if there is an exact date for training, signing of the contract etc. etc... they told me that they are still finalizing the dates etc. etc... i don't know what wrong with them. they have been saying this for almost 3 weeks. Sayang sila pa naman yung priority ko since I lived in las pinas. Pero parang wala pa rin silang dates na mabibigay sa akin. puro lang estimates etc.
contact world is offering me 12000 + 10% night diff + allowances. sabi nung hr sa eglobal yung salary daw nila nag re-range between 8-15 thousand. yung salary daw mag be-base sa performance during the training :(
uhmm somebody from eglobal reach told me that they are in partnership with a major call center. do you know the company?
Paolo_Aquino
Nov 6, 2002, 04:00 PM
get the contact world job offer then...
contact centres sometimes put their "soon to be employees" on hold before they accept them because they need finality from their clients. If this is the case re: your future employers, then it's a wise decision for you to pick the one with a more stable offer.
I do not know who they are partnering up with... i'm sorry.
congratulations on your new job! :)

I don't think there are companies looking for a QA as of today. You also might encounter difficulties in getting in a company as a QA at once because they usually prioritize their operations people as QA before getting people outside the company. Why don't you send your resume to me and I'll have it placed in the QA active list. Through this, we can notify you whenever any contact center asks for our help in search for a QA.
Xander
Business development people are sales people. There's no existing training yet that focuses on call center business development yet. We do offer a sales course tailored for the call center environment though.
To all call center professionals
Ignore the people who say that you guys are doing a "no brainer job." These people are either
a) unaware of the changes in the industry
b) jump into conclusions before investigating the facts
c) pretending to be smart and succesful
d) Just plain dumb
The call center system is slowly turning into a science. If some people are still too ignorant to realize it, just let them be... :)
Scientists who once argued that the world is round were once considered indifferent too. And after centuries of arguement we can now proudly tell their sceptics that.....who's the dummy? :)

Peeps,
I am thrilled to announce that we shall be opening our call center training to the public again.
Global Contact Center Training is the only globally certified call center training in the Philippines today. It was originally offered as a public course early this year, but due to the enormous requests of different call centers, the training evolved to that which was purchased by call centers for their own exclusive use.
Global Contact Center Training shall again be offered to the public starting January 13, 2003. The training shall be held in ICITE in Eastwood City, Libis. The training is also in partnership with Nortel technologies, the leading call center software connections provider, Berlitz International, the global leader of language instruction, and CCS International, a multinational call center solutions consultancy firm.
Graduates of the training are instantly scheduled for an interview with our company.
Interested applicants may call me personally at 848-69-60, or mail your CV’s at paolo@asiapartners.net.
Your job-hunting battle is HALF-WON, once you are trained with Global Contact Center Training.

b) installment
c) payment as a salary deduction, after we have placed you in one of our reputable call center clients, and you are already receiving a very competitive salary... doesn't that sound good!! :) we train you while charging you with basically NOTHING... we give you a job... then we bill you once you guys are receiving your fat pay checks already. Does Paolo_Aquino work for Contact World? If so, I would like to inform him of this incident:
A certain Mimi called me and conducted a phone interview and subsequently told me to go to their office for a personal interview.
Mimi: Can you go to our office this ** at *pm. Just look for me and tell the receptionist you came for an interview.
Altwegg: Okay. Thank you.
Mimi: By the way, what was your course again in college?
Altwegg: BS Biology
Mimi: Oh. Okay. Uhm, let me reschedule you okay? Don't go here on the date I told you earlier. I'll fix first the schedules. I'll call you again.
I was like .. huwaaaaaaaaat? Not a single call from them since then.
I may have graduated with a degree in BS Biology but my computer skills are above average.

A very welcome article from the Philippine Star.
HSBC to use RP for global backroom operations
By Des Ferriols
The Philippine Star 04/14/2004
HSBC Ltd. is setting up backroom operations in the Philippines for processing and customer support services within the HSBC Group of companies overseas.
Bank officials announced yesterday that a new facility at the Northgate Cyberzone in Alabang would be put up and is expected to be operational by mid-2005.
HSBC chief executive officer Warner Manning told reporters that the backroom operations would start in mid-2004 at its temporary location in Makati, but the facility would be transferred to its permanent location in Alabang by the end of the year.
Initially, Manning said the facility would employ around 500 people. He said it would be the bank’s eighth group service center with locations in other countries including China, India and Malaysia. A similar facility is also under development in Sri Lanka.
"We have been in this country for close to 130 years," Manning said. "Our decision to open a group service center here reflects our confidence in this country’s prospects."
The project was formally announced yesterday at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) with BSP Governor Rafael Buenaventura and Trade Secretary Cesar Purisima.
Purisima said HSBC would qualify under the incentives program of the Board of Investments (BOI). Since the bank has selected a special economic zone in Alabang, he said it would also qualify for incentives under the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
"These are incentives that include income tax holiday," Purisima said. "They are starting with 500 seats but we are hoping that it would be expanded eventually."
Manning said HSBC picked the Philippines as a location primarily because of the quality of telecommunication infrastructure and language skills.
"These are freely available in the Philippines and the number of fresh graduates that we can train will ensure ample supply of quality employees," he said.
HSBC now has 21 branches nationwide but Manning said the bank is content with its existing network. "We’re okay with these 21 branches, we will just continue developing this network," he said.
However, Manning said HSBC is planning to expand its consumer business.
