View Full Version : What's a good bank?

I used to work for BPI. This bank is run by very conservative people, that's why I left. But my leaving has nothing to do with how I feel about keeping my money with them. That's why most of my money is parked there.
But there are other banks that I would endorse to anyone who would want to open an account.
Metro and RCBC are fine, and so is Union.
To answer Calypso's question, it's always good to have more than one bank, so you have a choice and can compare rates, services, etc. Every accountholder is insured by PDIC up to P100,000. If your deposit exceeds that, it's always good to spread it around, as sis 'KuLiT says, so that all your money doesn't end up frozen in a single place.

I really want to close my account at Equi-PCI (Katipunan Branch) because their bank stinks already. Almost literally. It doesn't seem very well maintained, and also, I'm thinking of transferring to a bank that's closer to where I'll be working (in Libis). I'll be having a new account with UCPB (c/o my company), but I also want to have an account at another bank, but I don't know which. Is Metrobank good? What about RCBC? Or should I be content with one bank? What would you suggest?
PS. I don't have a lotta money-- I can't very well apply for an acct at Citibank (which is exactly the building where I'll be working).

If by "good" you mean safe then BPI is the only local bank I would trust with my money at the moment.

Really, batang uliran? Why so? I've never considered BPI to be 'my bank' because I recall that my parents had two cases against them which they both won (i think). It had to do with BPI being a negligent bank, or something to that effect. I was very young then, so I didn't really understand what was happening, but as my parents put it, 'Masyadong maraming tao sa BPI' that they can only handle so many accounts.
In any case, though, I'm open to the possibility of banking with them now...

BPI is the healthiest bank in the system today by many financial measures. It also has a very extensive branch network and is a pioneer in electronic banking. With an ATM card, you can minimize interaction with any of their "human tellers."

BPI works for me. But I don't like putting all my eggs in one basket. I used to have an account in MetroBank, but I closed it because their service was pretty bad. Ditto with Union Bank.
Howabout ABN-AMRO? (formerly Great Pacific Savings, formerly BA Savings) Any insider information on that bank's stability?

i use several local and foreign banks (not that i have a whole lot of money) to be on the safe side. i like international exchange bank (ibank) for the service. :)

Thanks for all your input, guys! I'll take them all into consideration, and will definitely inquire with the proper people at the banks.
green grin: Would you know what the minimum opening balance (or whatever you call it) at iBank is?

calypso - gee, i don't know. i imagine it would be the same as the other local banks. maybe you can inquire. :)
another reason why i like ibank is that their customer relations group really go out of their way to help out clients.

green grin: :D hee hee <;--- delayed reaction to your 'sperm bank' hirit... Yep, i'll do that, inquire. Actually, I'm very interested in either iBank and ABN-AMRO but I don't think either bank has a branch that's close to where I work... :(
