As much as I hate labelling bands, I had to this time. Just to attract attention to my topic, LOL. Anyway, what's up guys? I'm really into emo/punk nowadays, what are your favorite bands?

Here are a couple of mine:

Dashboard Confessional
The Ataris (thank you Raf)
Rufio (" " ")
New Found Glory (thank you Angela)
Beautiful Mistake (" " ")
Jimmy Eat World (" " ")
Finch (" " ")
Thursday
and of course Blink 182, Carousel still gets me going.

:p

My emo friends played me some Saves The Day and Me First And The Gimme Gimmes(am I correct on the names?) which I think were pretty nice and good-boy sounding bands

Saves The Day rocks! Me First And The Gimme Gimmes are pretty cool too, their cover songs are sometimes better than the original. :D

I'm partial to:

The Juliana Theory
Open Hand
Yellowcard
Dashboard Confessional
HoobUstank (not HoobAstank. Back when they were worth two $hits)
Placebo
The GUK
Saves the Day

millencolin - you can here them off the tony hawk's pro skater 2 game and the "music inspired by the tony hawk game" album, they're more punk, but they have emo songs too

yung last album ng save ferris is more on indie and emo

"saves the day" are one of my boyfriend's favorite bands. mine are "the get up kids", "millencolin" and "the promise ring"(even though they say they don't belong to emo punk bands.
cool topic!!

The Ataris are great! I never get sick of them, Operation Ivy? Haven't heard of them, I'll check them out though. w00t! Seven replies in one day, not bad. I was thinking nobody liked punk, rotfl.

there is better 'emo' out there than say...jimmy eat world. or dashboard confessional (YUOR HAIR IS EVERYWHERE. god. worst song in the history of the universe!). or saves the day.
listen to that instead. :) i sound annoying and know-it-all-y, don't i? i feel anoying. i am annoying myself. but i just couldn't help it, i had to say it!

'emo' is the stupidest word ever. like 'riotgrrrl'.

i actually like dashboard confessional, no matter what you say. "emo" is an overused term now --- kapag "whiny" kumanta yung vocalist, "emo" na. oh well, my opinion anyway.

i like:

braid
hey mercedes
the promise ring
get-up kids
rainer maria

and some dischord bands. jade tree, vagrant too. but i'm more on twee, lo-fi pop that people love to call "indie pop". mmm whatever.

hmmm... nice list!... are you a big fan of braid?... well, actually i am... i've got all their 7-inches and cds and also their first cd frankiewelfareboyage5... they really are intelligent musicians... and their brand of math-rock is very good...

i'm an emo/punk follower since i've heard "rites of spring" and later the post-minor-threat project called "embrace"... the biggest dilemma today is that music writers refer to "mudvayne" and "staind" as emo when in fact they're one of the most hilarious copycats of "tool":D ... that's why emo is now a cliche...

anyways, here's my list:

braid
shellac
jawbreaker
sunny day real estate
cap n' jazz
the promise ring
milemarker
owls
franklin
joshua
by a thread
jejune
jazz june
mineral
christie front drive
boy's life
peibald
thoughts of ionesce
sea of cortez
boysetsfire
thursday
farside
sensefield
jawbox
guk
saves the day

since nu107's been playing "dashboard confessional", the big emo thing is now getting to our mainstream... this is actually a part of the mid-western emo genre started by "christie front drive" back in 1995... dashboard is good, i just can't get into that "pedro the lion" style of singing... i don't know, maybe i'm drunk again...

yeah i think 'emo' is derivative of emotion/emotional. can't think of what else it could be. :)

"something to write home about" is actually the get up kids' most recent cd that was released back in 1999... it contains 12 tracks, including the previously released and my personal fave "red letter day"... it also has the song called "I'm a Loner Dottie, A Rebel" which was also previously released on Postmarked Stamps Split 7"... i hope what you got was the special edition cd which i believe contains 2 bonus tracks: "Forgive & Forget" and the New Order cover "Regret"... their new release btw, was the Anniversary Split 7" which has the song "Central Standard Time"... every die-hard guk fan should have the "something to ... " cd coz i think this is one of their best release ever... thanks!

enkindel is the emo authority. He must be from NJ.

i think getupkids is one of the most influential indie-post-rock pop emo band even though there isn't such a real definition of what's emo or not... something to write home rules! i was lucky enough i bought that cd! saves the day, ataris, promise ring, hot rod circuit, julian theory, appleseed cast, promise ring, alkaline trio, jimmy eat world, thursday, sunny day..., dashboard ganda ng voice ******* sad core! damn and dami tlaga bands! listen to mga Vagrants na bands ganda rin nung album na another year on the street which i have! hheehhe when it comes to punk rock tang ina ang dami rin... descendents being the forefather of punk rock, mxpx, blink, hope the underground scene stays its kinda a drag when people jive into the music just because its popular!

Tanis_Half-Elf: howdy!... i'm not from NJ though i wish i live there or in Nova/DC coz that's where the good emo bands are cropping up... i'm from San Mateo, Rizal actually...

the bands i listed on my last post are bands that most people will label as "emo"... but in my honest opinion, i think these bands are more like indie or punk... but anyways, i don't care much about labeling music... as long as it's good stuff, emo or not emo, i'd give it a listen... here are some of the emo bands i'm listenin to right now actually:

Saetia
Orchid
Hot Cross
Off Minor
Indian Summer
Pg 99
Onelinedrawing
Rites Of Spring
Still Life
Forstella Ford
City Of Caterpillar
Coheed
Cambria
Crestfallen
Sentiment
Zao

word has it that saetia, city of caterpillar and pg 99 are very good live bands... i just hope i see them before these kids disband... i'm not really sure if onelinedrawing are the same guys who once had a split cd with sensefield... i still have to confirm... what i'm really stoked right now is saetia & indian summer... they are so damn good... also, rival schools, finch, & thursday rocks!... avail & hot water music are punk gods... jimmy eat world, juliana theory, & dashboard confessional are now certified mtv indie-alternative pop stars... he he he... peace!
